Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Just verifying I’m going with 5100 all around with the c59-296 (1.5 inch lift) up front and c59- 323 in the rear will raise the front to make it almost level. I didn’t like how the front was lower in the front when I used the stock 4 runner springs all around.

Diff Drop supplied parts question:

We got the lift and diff drop on Saturday, but I was wondering a few things after install.

The kit included 10 spacers (2 for diff, 4 for front skid, and 4 for ???) and 8 bolts - 4 for skid drop and 2 + 2 more for the diff in two lengths.

I think we used the shorter "longer diff bolts", being its a SR5. Assuming the longer ones were for TRD skids or otherwise

What were the other (4) spacers for? The second skid? It's definitely offset now compared to the front skid, but there were only (4) longer skid mount bolts supplied. Was the kit supposed to include an extra (4) skid bolts to drop the middle panel too?

Lastly, thoughts on using the skid at the front diff for a center jack point now. I'm guessing I need to remove the skid each time to be able to do that now, since it'd crush otherwise.

The truck looks and rides GREAT by the way. Love my choices that you all helped with.

Sounds like you got 4 bonus spacers that shouldn't be in the box.

It comes with 2 length long bolts due to various vehicle fitment.

No, not a good idea to Jack from the skid plate, especially after adding spacers as it would crush inwards most likely.

Appreciate it!

Nope. It settled nicely. Slight forward rake about 1” taller in the rear now.

I’m about to pull the trigger on the same lift... did you have any running issues with the 285s? I was thinking about running the 275s to avoid any potential rubbing.

I installed 285‘s before the lift, and had a decent amount of rub in the front and back of the front tires. After I installed the lift and had it realigned, no rubbing. And no BMC. Good luck

Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - lots of choices

I'm looking at a similar setup and am curious if you have any rubbing issues with this setup and the 285s? Are they mounted on stock wheels and what caster were you able to achieve? I have KDSS and am adding a SSO bumper and winch so have to accommodate the weight so won't run exact same setup but looking at that lift height and moving from 265s to 285s (K02)

THanks

Awww man I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner.

I has minor rubbing on the front bumper clip and zero rubbing on the BM. Easy fix to front bumper clip with a power multitool. I have FN six shooters. Id contribute the zero rubbing to wheel choices and uca selection. As for castor I got 3.8 and I drive straight and stable.

I am adding a lopro bumper and winch and hoping I can add a 1/4 top plate spacer to bring my front back up. But we will see.

As for tire size I am super happy with my k02 e rated 285s. My spedo is damn near .5 of a mph off. Of course I took a slight hit to in town mpg but who cares, highway average stayed the same.

Just a quick question, my 4runner has KDSS but I went ahead and got the non KDSS rear coil due to Dobinsons availability and my available installation time. I got the spacer pack to help offset the KDSS lean, the spacer goes on the rear Passenger side is that correct?

Crikeymike Hi Mike, any more info on this new setup?

Still waiting for all the stock to arrive so that we will be able to sell it for all the major models. But here's the lowdown.

10 stage high speed compression adjustment
20 stage slow speed compression adjustment
15 stage rebound adjustment

On the struts, rebound adjustment is from the top stud, quite simple to get to above the strut tower.

On the shocks, rebound adjustment is in the lower mount.

High and slow speed adjustment is both handled at the reservoir front and rear.

All in all, they look a lot like the standard MRR shocks we have had for some time, but they include full swivel fittings on the reservoir hose, both ends, to avoid it becoming loose and ease of installation and orientation. But with all the adjustment, you could literally tighten them up so much to essentially stop all movement or soften then up to suit it however you like. The range of adjustment is massive which is excellent for those going from no load to heavy loads, or those that want it softer on the highway than while offroad.

4runners will still not use a piggy back mount for the reservoir.

Is there a diagram that has any more detail? I bought a set of KYB top hats to assemble my coilovers and I cannot get enough threads to show to be able to get the nut on - obviously I'm screwin the pooch somewhere!

Thank you! when you said "4runners will still not use a piggy back mount for the reservoir," did you mean it will be mounted on the chassis vs the strut?

I have KDSS with full metal front bumper and would like to go with the 3" lift. Would you suggest 3" front-heavy duty and 2" rear-heavy duty? I would like to keep it level as much as possible but want to prevent reverse rake when all loaded up in the rear for our trips.

Will these require periodic rebuilding? If so at what interval?

Usually it does, but not all vehicles lean, and the ones that do don't always lean the same. Plus, you have KDSS which can cause a lean itself if it wasn't managed properly during the installation of the suspension.

Can you elaborate on this a little? I was told if doing a self install for the rear, its suggested to keep a jack under the rear KDSS piston. Do you have anything to add to this? I haven't found much on the site and I'm just trying to get a better understand. Thank you

You can't assemble them without a strut coil compressor. the coils are too long to use the "do it without the compressor tool" installation.

From the bare stud, upwards
Washer
Bushing
Locating washer
Strut plate
Top bushing
Top washer
Top nut
