Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Looks great but def needs bigger shoes!!

Thanks, and yeah it does! I've got 255/80R17's Falken AT3W's in the garage - wanted to get the first hundred or so miles on before getting aligned (lets everything settle in) and get them installed. I drive a ton and decided to try these to see for mileage/snow conditions etc.

I was planning to run some wheels but haven't found the bronze ones I want - so going to run spacers for now (I know, I know) as I keep looking. Ended up scoring a deal on some UCA's the other day so now trying to hold on much mileage (easy at the moment) and get those in before it gets aligned. Pictures will be updated here and on instagram Sundy4R soon!

Also, quick note - things are settling in nicely and the ride is starting to be amazing! It was nice at first, but a bit stiffer than I had hoped in the rear for the "comfort" shocks. This has quickly changed in a small amount of mileage! :)

Looking to move from 3/2 Ready lift spacer kit on my Limited ( with retained X-REAS) to a Dobinsons setup.
After a year of harsh hi speed compression in the rear most likely because how the X-REAS system works with a strut spacer in front and spring spacer in the rear looking for a setup that is not as harsh

Dobinsons UCA are all ready installed
and diff drop already installed

After talking to exit off road
Stock weight
302/574 +3.5" front
327/705 comfort valved +2.5" rear

Any one running this setup ?

Do you intend to carry much weight in the rear? Assuming so as the 327 are listed as "200-400LB heavy rear load weight, 2" lift." If so, I'd recommend the 701s instead. I have the 705s and carry about 100lbs of gear in the back at all times and find that they 705s are a bit too soft off road. On road they do much better.

Nope dont plan on carrying much gear. 80% pavement (daily driver) 20 light off road. Packed trails and such out to hunting spots places to shoot.
The reason for the 327 is to get +1/2 inch when not carrying the 200 lbs.

Rear coil doubt

Hi, i want to know what rear coils i have to use to achieve 24"-24.5" rear lift, i have 3row seats and a constant 150lbs load.

Thanks.

Does KDSS lean usually occur on the passenger side? At the moment, my driver side is lower by maybe 3/4-1 inch. New coils (302s) have about 500 miles or so on them by now.

Yes. Normally the passenger side is boosted up because it leans down on that side.

Sounds like you need to do a rebalance of your KDSS system. Like these instructions, let the suspension hang in the air with the valves open for a while, then lower it down and tighten them back up.

Ahh ok. It was relatively even after the coils were installed. Must have changed when the coils broke in.

Forgot to ask, if I perform the balance procedures, would I still need the offset rear coils? Also would swapping the right side coil to the left help since the right coil is taller?

On the rear, the right coil is taller and should stay on the right. Since you're dipping to the driver side, I'd say it's the hydraulic system holding that down. I've never seen a vehicle with kdss need to swap the rear coils around.

If you did the coil swap while not touching the valves, that's probably the cause of it

Check that the front coils are properly seated too.

Sounds good, Ill give the calibration a try. Is there any torque specs for tightening the Shutter valves?

Let me know how it goes for you! I have the same setup, not as much drop but the drivers side is a bit lower. I don't have as many miles so it could still be settling in.

First post in this forum, long time lurker...

Been eyeing the TRD Pro front coils (C59-748) ever since adding a C4 Lopro, winch, and Odyssey group31. Am i safe to assume they would provide an additional 1/2" or so in the front due to the added weight?

Also curious what rear springs everyone would suggest for stock TRD Pro shocks (2018, bilstein) running a GOBI rack, RTT, fridge and drawer system in the back full-time. No rear bumper in the plan, yet....

While I'm asking.....Did anyone with a similar lift see any sway bar issues?

If it helps, I'm currently on stock 265/70 Terra Grapplers on the TRD 17" wheels. Planning to jump to 285/70 WildPeaks when installing the new coils, along with Energy Suspension rear bumpstops.

:usa2: Thanks to everyone for the great info in this thread :usa2:

Hey bud,

Welcome to the thread!!

The C59-748 front coils were made for 1" lift over stock height on a TRD Pro with Bilstein struts. They weren't intended to support any extra weight like what you've added to the front. You might be lucky to see 1/4" at most over what you're at now with these coils, since they're still stock spring rate.

You really need a stronger spring rate, and King are the only people that make them to my knowledge.

For the rear, it would depend on how high you want to go, relative to what you do to the front. With that weight, I'd normally suggest C59-327 rear coils to suit that weight properly and to give 2" of rear lift.

Thanks for the insight!

At that point would you just suggest swapping the whole front strut? Or am i mistakenly assuming King = $$$? Heh..

EDIT: I should really google stuff before replying.....

At ~$200 shipped, the King 14x3 600lbs are definitely on my short list.
Id like to keep a smidge of rake, but not super predominant.

Think pairing the above with the C59-327s should do?

If so, plz do take my money! Ha

OK so not really sure if I have a lean or not as I cant find any flat ground in LA lol. Will try the rebalancing tomorrow meaning. In the mean time, loving how the Dobinson set up feels on road and off trail! Don't really see myself upgrading to anything else (maybe MRAs or IMS) as Id rather save the funds for other things.

Hahha, I was gonna say I think those are about $200 for the pair. That's the route I'd go if your struts aren't very old.

And yes on the C59-327's in the rear too.

Thanks for the photos Kev. Helps me keep daydreaming about getting out your way!!

So just finished doing the reset/balance. Same driveway, I originally was measuring a 1.2inch lean. After the balance, its down to .2 inches which is WAY more than I expected lol. Would have been fine with a .6-.75. Also, not sure why but the car feels soo much better on the road now. It felt great after swapping in the 302 coils but after the lean started developing, the ride quality went down a bit. Back to normal now. Loving it!
