Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

I don't think it's too common for people to wish they went bigger unless they wanted to put a bigger tire on. Most people that want to stay with a stock-ish size tire would do that smaller lift height.

On the other hand, some people that went with more lift then felt the need to upgrade tires sooner than they wanted to "fill up the wheel wells more".

Here's the 2" front and 1" rear installed

Mike, I want 2” to 2-1/2” lift in the front and the rear about 1” to 1-1/2” higher post lift.

I am going with the adjustable mono-tube IMS up front.

Currently I have no bumper and winch up front but plan on adding in the future, no idea when that may be.

I want to maintain the ride quality of stock (without the nose dive and squishy feel).

Would you suggest C59-300s or C59-302s up front?

Would it be better to go with 300s and adjust the front strut up after adding the winch/bumper to maintain the desired height OR go with 302s right away and deal with the (theoretical) rough ride until I add the winch at a later time?

How much difference is there between the ride quality of each respective spring in reality?

I plan to go with either 255/75s or 285/70s on stock TRD Off Road rims.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I installed my 300 & 505's yesterday with Bilstein 5100's. Holy crap it feels like a truck again. I love the ride.

I went with the 505's because I usually have a lot of stuff in the back. Unloaded there is a bit too much rake for my taste but with all of my crap in the back it sits just right for me with a bit of rake.

I was a dumbass and didn't take hub to fender measurements before the install.

If you check out the specs in the first post of this thread, you'll see the 300 and 302 coils are the same spring rate. The 302's are just taller. so they're not rougher, they're just taller.

If you have no idea when, then you may as well just put on the 300's, set the front height to whatever you want, and then raise them up if you ever do add front weight. Unless you want 2.5", then you go with the 2.5" coils. You just have to decide what height you want and choose the appropriate coils from the first post.

2" front and 1" rear
or
2.5" front and 1.5" rear
or any variation of all of those options plus more.

PM sent Mike.

I'm thinking 2/1 lift for my 2016 4Runner Trail KDSS to pair with Bilstein 5100 shocks I have on hand. I wanted to know if you would have any KDSS specific suggestions beyond the 300/599 setup. Would the standard T4R discount apply on just the springs?

Thanks!

Jeff

Just replied!!

Yes, those are the coils for that height that work best. And sometimes a rear 15mm spacer is needed on the low side, but not every vehicle always leans the same.

Yep, I sent you the discount code too!!

Thanks Mike! Order placed. I look forward to posting some before/after photos.

Coils have arrived, just waiting for the shocks now!

Hi Mike

Like others, you came highly recommended from the good folks on this forum. I currently have a 2019 TRD Off Road that I am looking to make some suspension changes too. It's my daily driver so I'm not looking for anything crazy but would like to level out the front and improve the drive both daily and the days that I do go off-road.

1) I have the current TRD Off Road rims with BFG Baja Champions 275s
2) I do get some rubbing on the right front when turning in reverse
3) Eventually will equip with front and rear skid plates.

Any recommendation for easing into this properly without going overboard with stuff that I wouldn't actually need/use?

Hey there, welcome to the forum!!

Sure. You could go with something as easy as a front coil change just to raise up the front a little to help level it out and reduce the majority of the nose diving when braking. That would be pretty economical in parts, but the labor is the same as changing out the whole front strut and coil assembly. Or with the promotion we're doing this month with free strut assembly and top mounts, that saves $180 over the normal price, so it makes a full kit a better deal in the long run.

For your setup with that size tires, I'd suggest 2" front and 1" rear lift just to elevate it a little, adding some leveling, while keeping about 1" of rake. A few guys last week were asking about that height too and a couple ordered their kits already also.

So you'd just need to decide what sort of budget you're working with and if you just want to change out the coils and keep your relatively new struts and shocks and see how you like it, or go with a full replacement setup. The benefits of the new struts and shocks is increased handling quality, less body roll, and the ability to soak up bumps when you're racing your friends over the railroad tracks without bottoming out as easily as the stock suspension can.

i'm in a 2019 trd orp with KDSS, wanting 3/2 monotube with UCA's. plan to run SCS 17x9 -38 wheels with 285/70/17. find the site kind of confusing, what should I get?

All stock weight? Bumper, winch, anything? Lift heights are all based on added weight. Let me know and I can break down what you'd need.

SpeedyKevin is right, just need to look at each drop down, but I can manually enter an order too.

stock. I will be adding sliders but nothing else for at least a year.

OK. Here's what you'd need for 3" front 2" rear with IMS or MRA struts and shocks

C59-300 front coils
IMS59-50574 front IMS or MRA59-A574 front MRA struts
C59-325 rear coils
IMS59-50701 or MRA59-A701 rear shocks
UCA59-002K front UCA's - these are sold out until about mid-June.
DD59-527K - I recommend these with those long travel struts.
PS59-4025 rear spacer for KDSS, goes on passenger side

If you don't want to run a diff drop kit and want to maximize the front end clearance, you can use the C59-314 3" coils with IMS59-50700 front struts.
