Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Ok cool. I'd say C59-314's with the IMS59-50574 would be good since it seems that you don't have much front weight. And then the 329's in the rear with the 15mm spacer on the passenger side will do the trick.

Thank you.
If I were to add a slimline front bumper would you still say 314? Or will the adjustability of the IMS change that?

Also figured out why my ass is sagging... I have 889 not 898 coils, so yeah..

The 314's are good for up to 220lbs of front end weight, you'd just set the coil seat height appropriately.

Oh wow, that's a bit different on the rear! hahah

Hi mike. Thanks for taking the time to listen to me waffle over a half inch of lift, and explain why I'll never own a jeep again! Can hardly wait for the 302/505.

Howdy Mike. Quick question, I'm currently running 2.5/1.5 lift. Would the extra half an inch of a 3/2 lift really make that much of a difference? Or is it negligible at this point and just go up a tire size? I'd like to go 3/2 after low pro bumper and winch setup. Thanks in advance.

1/2" isn't really worth the trouble and money in my opinion, but when you add a bumper and winch, you'll lose height and probably want to regain some height then, so you'll be looking at new coils anyway.

I've read through most of the thread but haven't found my exact scenario so looking for some guidance. I have roughly 200lbs up front and looking to sit right at 2.5". Is the best way to achieve that with the 314/700 combination or go with the 314/574 and just adjust the seat height? I am planning new UCAs in either scenario. There's about 400lbs in the rear so planning on the 327s. Would it be best to pair those with the 705 or 701? Saw someone on here say they swapped out the 705 to the 701 and that really helped control the back while at 30-40 mph. Anyone else have experience with either setup? Trying to get a good overall ride on the street, good control on corrugated roads at lower speed (no desert running) and right set-up for trails when I'm loaded up with more weight. Thanks for any help!

What front weight is it exactly? If it's a heavy bumper with winch, better off with the C59-350 on the 574's. If you're getting the IMS, the seat height can be set however you want.

The 705 rears should only be used with a stock/light weight vehicle. Anyone that carries weight should be using the 701's for proper load support and body roll control.

194lbs with winch, slimline bumper, light, compressor, skid and heat exchanger/pump. I also have a full Gobi rack and steal sliders. I've been looking at Dobinsondirect.com but don't see the C59-350 as an option on the site.

C59-327 or C59-329

Im looking for some advice on deciding between 327 or 329 rear springs; vehicle currently has no constant load at the moment. Planning to add a tire carrier and fridge; plus additional weight in gear when trips are made. My concern is not having the vehicle sag when its loaded down but also trying to maintain an even level if it were to be empty. Pretty much crying over maybe 1/2" or more of lift and rake if I dont want to have the tire carrier and fridge at all times, lol. Appreciate the help and any feedback.

I am looking for the softest on road ride. Would like to filter out all of the PA potholes and ruts. Would the twin tube or the IMS be a better choice? Being in the Salt Belt, anyone have issues with corrosion on the collars?

I think the 327s will be your best bet. 329s would be to aggressive and make that ride super harsh when unloaded. I have a third row load, spare tire carrier, e load full size spare. When I have no kids in the back, I put a 80 lbs sandbag in the back just to make it ride better. With (2) 100 lbs kids in the back you don’t feel the ass end jarring and still has no sag. The picture only has 2.5” of lift in the front with the 327s.

Shout out to Mike...Great customer service from the first time I reached out...

I ordered front 238 coils for a 1" lift in front, but maybe ended up 300s as I got a full 2" on both sides in front. 599s out back gave 1"

Hello. Would you happen to have an update or any pictures of where you are at now with measurements. Wondering if it settled for you?

This is the exact set up I am looking at but possibly with IMS shocks. But, have some concern after seeing this post. Also curious as to why the lift heights are listed differently on this thread and on th Dobinsons sight. Here the front lists at 1-1.25. On the Dobinsons sight it's .75-1. I definetly don't want to raise the rear more than the front.

It's just confusing to see different listed heights and then seeing you getting something completely different. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated by you and or Mike. Thank you for your time! Best.

The 329's would be overkill then. The coils have listed constant load ratings with them and if you don't meet that amount of constant (ALWAYS) weight on the vehicle, it will be overlifted and ride firmer than desired.

The 327's would be more ideal for your use.

All the measurements listed here on this site are based on my years of doing this and all the feedback and measurements I get back from people using the parts.

Plus all 4runners have variance in them, some are 1/2" shorter than others even at the dealership, so there will always be some variance in what people end up with. Not to mention sagged out old suspension and different weights people carry in their vehicle.

If you go with IMS, you can always tune the height exactly how you want it, so you really don't need to worry about that.

Here's the IMS kit builder page from my website: Dobinsons IMS Suspension Kit Toyota 4Runner 2010-21 | Exit Offroad

The IMS will definitely produce the best ride quality in all conditions compared to the twin tubes, but yes, you could have issues with your climate. You'll just need to prep them properly before installing them with your favorite fluid film or whatever and do regular seasonal upkeep on them.

The IFP that the IMS shocks have is what leads them to handle the rough roads better, plus they're 50% bigger pistons than the twin tubes which gives greater dampening force.

Hey Crikeymike thanks for all of the information in this thread, it is immensely helpful.

I am getting ready to place an order through your site and would like your expertise here:

Currently my rig (see sig) is bone stock, but I have a few (steel) items on order or planned to purchase in the next 6 months:

- SSO Hybrid Bumper (in hand, ready to install)
- SSO Full Roof Rack (Expecting in Feb
- C4 Sliders(Expecting in March)
- 86lb Winch (TBD)
- Full Steel Skids (TBD)

This is a combined total of ~450lb constant load (assuming that all items are purchased) If I tally up the bumper, winch and front skid we get ~150lb in the front, the rest is spread across the axles. With that said, I may end up waiting a while on the winch/skids so my front-end constant load would likely be more like ~100lb for a while.

The rear will primarily be stock and won't have much constant load in the other than when I go camping or when I'm on jobs with my tools. I estimate that I'll be carrying between 150-250lb at most when going on these types of outings. 70% of the time the rear will be pretty much stock. During that 70% I will be driving 100% pavement.

With that said I'm looking for a nice 2-2.5" lift in the front and to level out the rake a tad (although I don't mind a bit of rake). I have to go measure to determine how much lean I have (KDSS) so I'm not sure which spacer size I need yet:

Front:
C59-302
GS59-700

Rear:
C59-505
GS59-705

Color:
Red Coils
Black Struts

Questions:
Does the added weight I mentioned warrant going for the 314 coils? Or should I stick with the 302's and decide if it's too much sag or not and add 1/4" spacers if needed? I'm concerned about not meeting the weight threshold of the 314's and having issues being so high + KDSS.

What do you foresee as the estimated wait time as far as shipping goes? (also considering the color choices above)

Am I missing anything else? :)

Thanks Mike!

Hi Smee,

Glad that the information I provide helps everyone here, I always love to hear that!!

If you only want the front to be about 2", then the 302's will be fine. If you want more like 2.5" with the front weight installed then you'd need the 314's, but you wouldn't want to put those on until all the front weight is installed. The 302's are 2.5" stock and then will squat down with added weight (just need a new alignment), so those are probably more ideal.

And yeah, you could always add a spacer to both front struts to gain 1/2" of lift height down the road if you want a little boost.

302's aren't due til February. 314's are in stock now.

In the rear, the 505's will be ideal with what you're looking to do. They're in stock right now

Front and rear struts/shocks are in stock

Probably only need the rear 15mm spacer with KDSS. Fronts generally aren't needed in addition to the rear.

Shipping lead time is 1 week for any new order placed right now, plus time for holiday closure.

Nope, I don't think you're missing anything else!!

Finally posting having installed last month. Love how it drives compared to my previous setup (6112/5160). Should have gone this route out the gate.

- Dobinsons IMS Front Struts & Rear Shocks
- Dobinsons C59-300/C59-599 Springs
- SPC UCA

Didn't take any pre/post measurements unfortunately.

1st pic: 6112/5160 (1in preload in front and stock rear springs) and 265 Falken AT3Ws

2nd pic: Dobinsons setup listed above, SPC UCAs, and 265 Falken AT3Ws

3rd pic: Dobinsons setup listed above, SPC UCAs and 285 BFG KO2s

Thanks Mike for talking me through the options and providing good instructions on how to do this myself. The KDSS steps you provided actually helped get rid of lean that I had my previous 6112/5160 setup.

How are you liking the ride so far? I am looking soft controlled on road manners. Pa has some awful rippled paved roads.

1/2" isn't really worth the trouble and money in my opinion, but when you add a bumper and winch, you'll lose height and probably want to regain some height then, so you'll be looking at new coils anyway.

So I just placed the order for C4 lo pro, winch, and light bar ~ 150lbs. Next will be coils. 314's in the front to keep the front at 2.5 or higher. Should I keep the 505 in the rear? Or go up to the 325 which is essentially .5 inch more lift just incase the front doesn't drop that much.
