Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

Dobinsons Mike I have a 4th gen with superflex rears right now. I bought some Icon 2” coils but am considering the 675V for the rear. I am getting a Rigd Ultraswing with rago plate, camp table and will have a 17” with 285/70 Wildpeak. I’ll eventually get a roof rack and rtt. You think the 675V’s are a good choice? I have Icon standard travel front coilovers.

From what I know, the superflex and our 675V coils are pretty similar. Normally with any weight on a 4th gen, the 677V coils would be a better choice.

I am..

Anyone use the Dobinsons "stock" replacement coils? 134 and 323?

If so, what has anyone reported and far as lift from old saggy springs?

Using the 323s in back paired with dobison linear shocks. I "think i gained about a 1" over the 109k coils they replaced. I really like um..

Thanks Mike, I’ll be getting the rear coils on tomorrow and expect to get at least an inch lift to give me the rake back. Even with the slight reverse rake it looks and rides great!

Got the rear coils in and it looks like it gave me about 1-1.5” rear lift. I think I may need a rear drivers side spacer to even it out, but I’ll wait to see if they settle any after ~500 miles.

Great service from Mike. Recently installed springs and shocks on a 2.5/1.5 lift. Enjoying the much improved ride.

5100 vs dobinsons

Ola! I am going to the next stage of my build that involves new bumper so new springs are needed (right now its TRDpro coils with 5100 at 1.75" notch) so I am thinking of 302 or 314 spring in the front and I also might as well ditch the spacer in the rear and go with 325 in the rear.

Is there a reason I should replace my new 5100 as well while I am at it? Considering I am not doing long travel just the regular TwinTube. Will that bring any benefits to the ride?

No, you can keep those struts if you want.

What engine do you have, and is it 4x4 or 2WD?

1GR-FE, 4wd.

I am actually interested to know more about the front long travel. Please correct me if I am wrong -- the advantage of the LT is in how far it could go on its way down, right? It seems like a nice idea for IFS with its limited range of motion. Does it work with stock control arms tho? What if I do C59-300 (which is 2" of lift with stock weight so with a steel bumper its going to be around 1") and pair it with GS59-220 -- will I get 2" of lift and benefits of longer travel while using stock UCA? Or is it not how it works? Pardon my ignorance, I am trying to educate myself hence asking questions :)

Bilsteins are digressively valved while the Dobinsons stuff is Linear.

I'd definitely recommend moving to Dobinson's shocks while you're doing the work.

Here's some reading info on the different types of shock valving and why it's important: Digressive vs Linear vs Progressive Pistons & Shock Valving | AccuTune Off-Road

Yes, they have more travel, which on a lifted truck helps keep the piston in a more neutral position without the chance of topping out at full extension too often.

Yes, you can use that coil and the longer strut to attain that lift height.

At the end of the day, the longer struts are 18mm longer at full extension than the standard GS59-221 struts, which equals a little over 1" of extra travel at the wheel. And they're only 3mm longer at full compression, so the chances of bottoming them out more often aren't really increased.

Is there anything needs to be addressed in the front with an extra 18mm of down travel? Brake lines?

Hey Mike, looking for a recommendation on my v8. Basically i'm looking for a 2.5/1.5" lift. I wont have a front load but i do tow a boat with a tongue weight of 400-500lbs. I was thinking the following below and then adding firestone airbags and inflate during towing to compensate. What is your take on this on this and if you have any other recommendation that would be great.

Front: C59-314 and GS59-221
Rear: C59-505 and GS59-637

Hey man, Those parts you listed will be idea. with the air bags. If you towed the boat often, you could go with a heavier spring rate but you'd be over 2" of lift unloaded which wouldn't give you the stance you're looking for.

Wouldnt mind a 3/2" lift but how would the ride be without the load?? I tow it once every 2-3 weeks.

Just a bit firmer. It depends if you're towing the boat 2 miles, or further each time. If your truck can handle the boat just fine now, then you can go with the standard springs and add air bags later if you feel like you need them.

What did you pair the 323s with in the front? Pics?

I’ve got an 07 v6 4wd. I’m running the 323’s in the rear with Bilstein 4600’s. In the front I have KYB strut plus and a 1/4” spacer.

Passenger rear ground to fender is 37” with about a 1/2” - 1/4” driver lean depending on how full the gas tank is.

Front ground to fender is 35” both sides.

Would mind getting your hub to fender measurements with this setup? Thanks!
