Help me understand why the factory switches cant be moved? Also, what holds the aftermarket switches in place?
The aftermarket and the factory switches are both held in by clips on the top and the bottom of the button. The clips extend outwards and press against the opening that you put the switches in. You can remove the switches by pressing both inward. However, you have to have access to the portion of the switch behind the dash to be able to press the clips in.
The factory switches have tabs on the side that match only one switch opening, so they are considered "keyed" to specific openings, and cannot be rearranged without modification. The aftermarket switches are flat on the sides so they can be inserted anywhere, regardless of any "keying." So the aftermarket switches can be installed anywhere.

The factory switches usea special cutout for fit. Of course you could modify this cutout or tab and do whatever you woukd like. But the other switches are held in by clips in the switch no issues coming out,.

Hey Doc, if you don't mind me asking, what rock lights did you use and how did you mount them? Poke poke 
Ironically or not everyone just seems to post pics of them lit up and not many of actual install location/type.
I picked up a set of rigids on GB and was considering just mounting them straight to the frame and running the wires internal through the box.

I really have not been that active. I did get the lights setup but am not close to being finished. I am being delayed by not having the custom wiring and circuit box order near a year ago and trying to get my FJ ready for sale along with life in General. As soon as I am able to get something sorted out on the wiring and the circuit box I should be posting again full force as I would like to complete this project asap.

Working out the particulars now, a year later since I ordered. To be able to finish up all the electronic/light install. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I may have some movement.
Still working through broken promoses less than two weeks ago. So hang on there. I am back to get her done, in the mean time I have a boat to play with.

Some quick updates and spring cleaning and maintenance:
Still have not moved forward on the install for the lights. Still waiting on the components to be able to install correctly. Lots of broken promises here. I hope to have this resolved in the next few weeks.
Opta-Coat Update: Not having a garage or a car cover takes it tole on a vehicle. Especially living out in the boonies. Where unpaved roads are common place as well as tree and other things that leave any type of contaminate on your vehicle you can imagine. I must say even though I was a bit hesitant about the optic-coat that it seems to be doing its job. A baseline comparison to other vehicles I have owned in similar conditions the paint is holding up excellent. Scratches are very rare, though I do have a couple chips from road trips back and forth from Florida and driving down gravel roads at high speed. There where some minor water spots yet the Meguries Water Spot Remover helped to lessen them. They where mostly on the hood. I do live off of well water, though filtered there are loads of minerals in it.
Maintenance: I had the ABS/Brake Light and Traction Control Light come on yesterday. Though it did go off after restarting the vehicle. I need to go have it checked out to make sure there are no issues. I did do a visual inspection of loose connection and wires. But I did not notice anything.
I am getting some vibration from the vehicle when starting out. I did manage to find out that the skid plates where the cause of the noise. I need to tighten them up. If I find them to be extremely loose. I may put on lactate to prevent it from happening again. With anything that I install I do torque down things well.
Upgrades: My Gobi Rack box came in and I have had it mounted to the rack for a while. It did come with the purchase of the rack. Though the box is very well built there are some issues that I would like to note and perhaps Gobi will take note and correct these in there future editions. The lock faces upwards, exposing it to the full force of mother nature. It gets pounded with rain and all sorts of debris. It makes it very difficult to get the key in and I am finding myself having to do lots of preventative maintenance on it to prevent it from locking up. Move the lock to the side of the box would prevent 75% of these issues. A side lock with a cover would remove 99% of them. The box is not water tight. I do store and electric impact wrench and tool kit in the box. I have attempted to weather tight it by adding a gasket to the top and sealing around the lower bolt holes to no avail. A redesign to make it water tight would be excellent. I am currently cleaning all my tools and oiling them. I will be putting them in a dry bag used for kayaking/boating and then storing them in the box. Another note a larger box option that is the width and length of the front opening of the roof rack would be a great option. With the additional upgrades it would be an excellent place to store a long gun when heading out hunting or many of the other needed tools that we find needing without much internal storage compartments in the 4-Runner.
Thats it for now. Hopefully I will be doing some more things soon.

Well it looks like my truck came in to the port 12Feb15 and made its way into the Tire/Suspension shop at the port 13Feb15. Also, had the suspension done and the wheels and tires installed. Was told still needs an alignment, skid plate and Pre-Delivery Service done before it is on its way to the dealer. We are going to head down to Florida to pick it up on Monday hopefully missing all the snow and crap weather that is hitting the Blue Ridge Mountains. I'll start to do lots of little mods while I am down there. I will take lots of photos and notes.
Here is a picture of the 4Runner right off of the Ship into the Tire/Suspension Shop for the Port Accessories.
Here are some pictures after the Suspension is installed. As well as the tires and rims. Note the orange colored Scion to the side, just for those who always wonder how the color Orange compares to Inferno.
We are heading down on 16FEB15 to Florida to pick up the vehicle.
A little about me. After being seriously into wheeling, I unfortunately was injured in combat and unable to seriously wheel anymore. I was medically retired from the Army on OCT 2013 with 90% disability. Currently, working on a 100% disability hoping to achieve this goal in the near future but, only time will tell. I ended up buying a Silverado to make it easier for me to get around as driving a Totally pimped out FJ was difficult for me now. Especially, with a service dog. My wife and I ended up selling our home in Colorado to move back east to be closer to our support center, Family. Where we have bought a cabin in the far NW of the Georgia Mountains. Due to the cost of the Ad Valorem tax to register our 2 year old truck we decided to sell the Silverado and buy new. With my Brother in Law working at the Toyota Southeast port for 23 years it was the perfect time and opportunity to pick up another Toyota. Going with the Pro tickled our fancy and with the monthly costs meeting our current payments fitting our budget we had a winner. I started to take off all the mods off of my Toyota FJ from the Long Travel Suspension to the ARB Bumper and beyond. Thus allowing me to get some mods on the new truck and return the FJ back to stock condition in order to sell it, since it is payed off. We are hoping to use the vehicle now for some exploring, camping, hunting (I hunt ) and to do lots of fly fishing as a form of therapy. We drive almost daily Forest Roads and dirt type roads daily. The mods will reflect this type of driving and surrounding mountain roads. Stay tuned as everything will be thought out and well done. I will not being doing any major wheeling anymore but it does not mean that the vehicle will not be very reliable #1 or very capable.

A dollar short and a year late. Sorry was going back over my thread and just saw this which is probably a good thing since I originally installed these that I went back and added some more and after having them come loose I tried to do a better way of securing them without having any issues of rusting with drilling into the body or running up through the floor boatd. What Imended up using is Liquid Nails to secure the led modules wherever I needed them. It worked great, I am a bit sirprised more havent done this. They have been this way for six months now without any further issues of the lights comming loose.
I am going back through some of the lighting wiring due to an electrical issue and finally getting in my fuse block when I do I will take a few pics of the lights. I am a bit slow in getting to it due to weather cintraints and time constraints since I need a week without using the vehicle to make sure I get everything buttoned up with cooler weather, clear, no garage, and no appointments. So give me a little bit and Ill post it. I hope this helps a little

Thanks for the comments. Again I havent been real active as of late. Lots of appointments, having some medical things bothering me, and shifting my funds to my firearm trust getting other projects done. While waiting for cooler weather and some motivation.
Recently I had some electrical problems creap up with the temporary light install where the Main loghtbar would come on without the swotch engaged and run down the battery due to me not driving daily while not noticing the light being on. I did unhook all the loghts at this time.
I am going to go through and remove the secondary alarm and remote start aselo since I would like to see if this is the issue with the horn and the lights. I have a sinking feeling it is, since it cimmunicates with the factor cimouter to achieve its functions. I will also be installing my secondary fuse block, as well as reworking all the wiring and putting on duetch connectors where needed. If I have time and the bracket I will also be installing the led bar under the grill. I will have my wofe take pictures while doing the install since this is probably the neatest install I have done as far as total integration.
There are some other projects I llan on finishing as well. Finally getting my control arms installed as well as my leveling spacers. I do have to change out the tires here soon as well and will eb upgrading to bfg ats. I feel they will offer better mikeage and better traction as well as a snow hich is needed in the mountains even if only GA mountains. I am contemplating going with the Icon 2.5 front and rear shock & spring upgrades (still undecided). Since I feel that the pro suspension is a bit too soft. Along with my T I and my attention slan I need the vehicle to drive itself when going in a straight line and now on trips am finding that I am having to correct too much and having to keep track of the vehicle. This issue is because of the soft suspension. The Icons start of stiffer while going through a progressively softer (word?) through its compression.
My issue here is that a. Money b. Unsure if I wnat to lift c. Tire upgrades bigger size affecting mikeage d. Wear and maintenance on the vehicle. For the use I do with thevehicle mostly overland, firetrails, logging roads. I have found the truck to be setup very well for my use as well as being a daily driver. The upgrades though providing more capability is not really needed beyond tightening up the tracking and drive of the vehicle, etc.. Thanks for hanging in there and keep checking in for updates they will be coming... Better late than never.

A little late to the party, but I was in Iraq from September 08 - September 09 with most of my time split between Al Qurnah (a few tents outside of the College of Education) and a little tiny outpost on the bank of the Tigris just outside of Samarra.
Samarra was unreal... We were just south of the Kalifa Palace (incredible), had an awesome view of the sun rising over the Spiral Minaret every morning, and regularly patrolled the area around the Great Mosque. Of course, it was also Samarra.
Basrah was Basrah... Loved those beautiful British MPs.

Wanted to add an upsate since there is some movement in getting some things done on the truck. We have been enjoying the 4Runner greatly this summer. Finally was able to get it washed up and detailed as best as possible living on the end of a forest road that is far from paved. Since the stock Nittos wear out quickly, I am at 20k, and need replaced I bought some new tires. Though I really like the Nittos a few things made me choose not to get them. I needed a snow rated tire living in the mountains. The Nitto did ok but some situations where i could see some traction issues that I wouldnt have with a new snow rated tire. As well as the wear rate and the softer side walls. I ended up with the BFG KO2s even though they dont have as high a speed rating seriously who is driving over 100mph in these trucks? I dod decide afterall to keep the stock suspension on the Pro and still go with a little larger tire after reading the comments. A 275/70r17 after speaking with a fee others abd reading about 5th gens using the same tire. Benefits of the tire are snow rated, stiffer sidewall and better tractiion off road or on my daily driven roads. Was considering going with a the 3 inch Icon lift. Yet the truck does very well with what I need and how we use it without the lift. We are considering in the future to get a Humvee anyway that would be a better fit for anyhing that could really damage the 4runner. I still have to put in the Toytec leveling kit and the Icon front control arm. I still have a little bit of tread left and will most likely be putting on the tires after I get back from service dog traingjng in Florida in the end of December. But will post up some ohotos again as I said before in the next few weeks when I finish the electical wiring and the front suspension upgrades.

Started the electrical yesterday. Though I Have made alot of progress I hve run into minor issues here and there that need to be addressed during the install and while the dash is apart. Ie switch lighting and correct wiring, and an issue with wrong wire coloring in the switches and one that doesnt even function correctly. Most likely an issue at the bussman fuse boock joy
Tomorrow I have to finish wiring up my Engel switch to come on when the switch is on. Radar Detector, work out rear light issue, fix some of my navigation lights that are broken, solenoid switch, fix hood switch and refix the engine light with construction type glue, remount the fuse block (webt a bit too high and cant get in all the bolts) and start mock up on the under grill led light bar. Probably at least two more days worth.
Then I will take a break for about a week and then get the front suspension finished. Arghh willbe so happy when it is done and everytjjng works. Not to mention I removed the remote statt and the alarm and still am having an issue with my horn that when you honk it it stays going and doesnt stop unless you release power. Dealer woukdnt touch it wih the alarm in. Thinking it is the column awitch and will have to troubleshoot t hat as well

Since the Rock Light Install went on hold due to product changes. I installed Rigid SRM leds x4 on the sides of the Gobi. I have had them for amwhile, was waiting on wiring and just got the brackets in today. I will put up an install thread by the weekend.
Tomorrow: I have to troubleshoot the fuse block. The rar lig switch is getting power from the switch to the relay to the fuse, then nothing. I will have to pull a wire and see if the commection is bad. Everything that I have mtered si far points to this. If I have time I will finish up the dimmer and light function on the switches. Found out that the dimmer finction has a negative output and needs a ground instead of a chassis ground.

Nice ToyRunner. Thanks for our service as well. I am also a combat vet of Afghanistan. Was in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003, both great times and bad times. Like you Im also at 90% I also just picked up a Super White 4runner trail. Congrats on your 4runner.
