Does 255/80/17 C Load Exist?

I went through this exercise a couple years ago looking for 255/85-16 skinnies for my 80 series and all I could find were E range as well. Chose the cooper ST MAXX and have been very pleased with them as an all around tire.

I've never driven LR E myself.

Would you consider them considerably rougher riding that LR C or not enough differnce to bump down (in this case) to 255/75/17?
I know that this "feeling" is subjective..but give it to me anyhow.

While 275/70 in C rating was my current choice for trouble free fit, I would rather go 255/80 in E if sizing up. That would be some time down the road, just wondering what lift/chopping would be compatible.

Subjective for sure. The 80 series has solid front axle making it rougher to begin with than our t4r's IFS. I went from p275/70 16 michelin balloons to the ST MAXX. The change certainly gave more "feedback" through the wheel and increased lateral stiffness but I wouldn't describe it as harsh. I run them at 40psi around town and highway. More than that and it might become harsh.

I think I'll give it a whirl and if they are unbearable I'll exchange them. My guess is it will be fine. Not my DD.

I just did a maiden voyage of 540 miles on a brand new set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers in LT255/80-17 E and was super pleased with the ride. For an e-tire they were really smooth and responsive and since I tow a travel trailer at times they will be perfect for the extra load. Couldn't be happier. Full review tomorrow.
