Does an 01 have a dimmer switch?

There is a reastat to the left of the steering wheel that allows you to dim your dash lights. If turning it does not dim, and turning it all the way does not shut the lights off all the way, it it likely broken.

It does have a dimmer. Do you have LEDs installed? My dimmer doesn't do anything with the cheap LEDs I have installed.

Ok that backs up what I was thinking so would that be the same on all 3rd gens so i can find one at the yard?

Yes, and even going back pre-3rd gen to 1989 and a LOT of other Toyotas as well....

Thank you I will have to pick up spare but I think it hasvsomething to do with my aftermarket head unit? I am searching for a fix now...
