Does anybody use Carista?

I used Carista on my 2017 and I can verify the following work:

Seatbelt warning ding Disable

Beep when unlocking and locking with remote NO

Lock doors when shifting into gear OFF

Unlock doors when shifting into park OFF

ECO Drive indicator zone OFF

Panic function on remote DISABLED


I used the Carista OBD2 adapter with an old iPhone I had laying around. That had no issues connecting. I tried it with my Nexus 5X and had connection problems, but I think that was due to so many apps using the Bluetooth at the same time because my Android tablet worked perfect.

Anyone looking to sell a Carista adapter now that they've got their settings how they like them? I've owned my 4R all of 48 hours and need to rid myself of the seat belt chime...

I'm a little surprised there's not a sizable "used" market for these things. Sounds like they're not very useful once you get your settings adjusted. Am I missing something?

It's an OBD connector, so it is very useful for more than just a handful of minor tweaks. Checking/clearing CEL codes, live gauges, etc. Plus they're so cheap that it's not worth the effort of selling vs. keeping it connected or in the glove box.

I have BlueDriver on my VW, works well to check CE lights and used it to clear CE for other people's cars too.

Carista is probably similar to my BlueDriver as stated above. With Blue, I can monitor engine parameters and log these readings and email to myself. You can check the CEL code and narrow down the cause by analyzing the data logs. It's been very convenient.

Does BlueDriver let you change light/door/window/chime/ect settings?

I think that is the biggest selling point for Carista, that, and it is ELM 327 compatible so other developed apps can utilize Caristas BT adapter (like DashCommand, I linked too a few posts ago). They are cheap too, generally $40 on amazon (includes the app), others usually run twice that, or the generics for half at $20 are all hit and miss according to their reviews.

Not sure if this has been said previously but since we were discussing it in another thread I thought I would go ahead and post it here.

You do not need to buy the Carista hardware to use the actual app to customize vehicle settings etc... I used my current OBDII scanner yesterday with the 10$ iOS app and it worked just fine.

Not totally correct you get a fully functional 30 day trail to the Pro when you buy the adapter.

Agreed, the older model had a $19 lifetime that you purchased through the debug menu. Even without the "Pro" you could do all of the customization. Maybe that has changed.

You are not wrong. I would just make sure to buy a BT adapter and not a Wi-Fi. Having to connect to the devices Wi-Fi every time you get in the car or want to make a change is nothing major but certainly a hindrance.

I agree with you on this, I think at the time I couldn't find a BT one that worked with iOS. Might be a better option out there.

That was the main reason I picked up a Carista. I nearly spent $90 on the OBDLink! I mean they support windows phones but not iOS, really? lol

But really ELM327 compatible adapter should do the trick.

Interesting. I have the BlueDriver OBD2 Bluetooth scanner, I wonder if Carista is compatible with it.

I bought Carista, then realized for about $15-20 I can buy a cable and use Techstream and do everything Carista does and a lot more.

You forgot to account for the cost of buying a laptop PC running Windows XP in your $15-20 cost claim. Most people don't already happen to have one of those lying around.
