Trying to decide if I want the 3rd row. Probably wont use it but 3 times but if it doesn't take up any space it would be nice to have.
Does the 3rd row seating take up any cargo or 2nd row space?

Here's a pic of one with the 3rd row seats down and you can see the amount of space lost. Also 2nd seats are different on the 3 row option models.

You can see how much the cargo floor has been raised to be flush with the 3rd row seats when they are down.
I guess the difference in the 2nd row seats would be the one on the passenger side being able to slide forward.
I enjoy sitting in the cargo while fishing by the lake sometimes, with the floor raised by 6", it wouldn't be very comfortable anymore :hiding:

If you can try and get both vehicles side by side and compare them. I did and that's why I went for one WITHOUT the 3rd row seat, also the 3rd row seat is usless for anyone over 3 foot tall.

I had the exact same dilemma when I bought my SR5. Initially wanted the third row but after asking people with third row seats and saying they could count the number of times they used them and then I found out it took up cargo space which was my #1 priority when buying this truck.

Since the option is only $805 and you really don't lose that much space, it was a no-brainer for me to get one with 3rd row.
It's a nice option to have and it already came in handy a few times recently and I am sure as my family grows in size, we will use it even more.
It's a steal for $805. I had a harder time finding a SR5 with 3rd row. It seemed like for every couple hundred 4runners, there would be one with 3rd row.

Got the third row to haul grandkids around... no I aint that old, but old enough for grandkids I guess.
We purposefully got the third row Limited for the kids though. Happens 2-3 times a month. Love the functionality and ability to take up to five kids now. The lost space is minimal for me.
But I am not packing the back with stuff to the roof or hauling. Got my Tundra and 94 Toy PU for that.

I have 2 girls aged 3 and 6. They love riding in the thrid row whenever they get the chance. It's indispensable when picking up another kid for a playdate or riding around with the cousins. I'm 6'2" and it is a joke for me, but great for the kids.
I wanted a 4runner bad, real bad, and that's what I got, but I felt like I had to go with the third row. Thank goodness it's offered or I might have had to go for a 'sensible' and vomitous crossover.
Having said all that, the drop from the floor to the tail gate latch is a *****. Anything stored in there that isn't flat will usually be right there to roll out onto the ground when you open the rear.
Most recently it was a 6 six pack of expensive and delicious beer--lost half of them. Goddammit!

If you're in the Toyota SE region, all 4Runners that don't have the 3rd row come with the mandatory sliding tray. There is no option to remove it. That said, there's negligible difference between the cargo space when choosing 3rd row or not, as the tray takes up roughly the same volume as the 3rd row.
Since I wanted the 3rd row anyway, and I purchased my 4Runner in Texas, the choice seemed easy.
This was not spelled out online, and I did not realize that you couldn't opt out of the tray until I started comparing models/options and asking questions at the dealership.
Negotiating tip: If I recall correctly, since the tray is a mandatory ~$400 MSRP option, upgrading to the 3rd row was actually not as expensive as simply adding the 3rd row since you could effectively reduce the MSRP of the 3rd row by $400.

I HAVE THE 3RD ROW, BUT I REMOVED IT... will only install it when i think i might need it..it weighs about 22kg. or so
Do you have any pictures with the 3rd row removed? And I'm assuming all this remains the same on the 2013 models?
