Here are the pictures to these weird rust that is under the driver side door and passenger side. Got any ideas how I can repair this?

EDIT: Got it all fixed up. This isn't the best and it's my first time doing it, but there was one problem I ran into was the paint that didn't match the car color... :wow2:

Since its in the door sill, and not really visible. I would sand down and remove all the rust myself and then put some touch up paint on it and call it done. It may not look perfect, but it will be protected and no one will probably even notice given its location.

I've got that, on the rear drivers side. It's halfway up in an area where you would think water/ice/salt would run off. I have not decided what to do just yet.

I have a small bit of that on my driver side back seat also. I have been considering sanding it down, throwing some touch up paint on and then adding grip tape to the top of it.

If you took the 4 screws and the molding off and then lifted the rubber door seal off the body, you probably will find the start of the rust. Which probably is the 3 or 4 pieces of sheet metal welded "Pinch Weld" together from the factory. Sand, salt, dirt etc love pinch welds.

If you took the 4 screws and the molding off and then lifted the rubber door seal off the body, you probably will find the start of the rust. Which probably is the 3 or 4 pieces of sheet metal welded "Pinch Weld" together from the factory. Sand, salt, dirt etc love pinch welds.

I've had issues in the same area. I simply did what cfrank1 advised, and took the rubber seal off after removing the molding. I then took a wire wheel with my angle grinder, and cleaned it up down to the metal. Some rust paint, then scuffed, with some Duplicolor paint, and a coat of clear....and good to go man! Just make sure you either mask off the surounding carpets, or use a cardboard to block off while you're painting. I use the cardboard method....works like a charm!

BTW, if its rusted through...you could either get it fixed...or put a dab of grease on it....should stop it from getting worse....

Yeah, I'm probably going to do the same thing that you did with a angle grinder to clean it up and use Duplicolor paint for it.

Ok, I'll take a look by taking 4 screws, the molding off and then lift thee rubber door seel to see where the rust is starting. :thanks:

I've seen that same rust issue on several runner's.....and if you don't deal with it, it will rust completely through. Then you're really screwed....because water goes INTO the rocker and starts rusting your entire rocker panel from the inside out. Eventually the whole bottom edge of your truck underneath the doors with be cancer.

Fix it right away, and hopefully it's still on the surface. If it's already made a hole.....try to get the rocker cleaned out with some suction and then load it with some kind of water displacer.

You could also drill a hole into the rocker.....and spray inside with some lubricant....I shoot oil in mine every fall. I also oil spray the entire undercarriage, inside the fenders, doors, and rear hatch.....saves the sheet metal man....it's messy...but will keep your truck looking good on the outside for years to come!

I'm in the process of fixing a few of these door rust spots as well.

I noticed the rocker panel has a hole in the bottom that is covered with a circle of plastic and the original paint.

I'm also trying to figure out the mess of overlapping body sheets on the bottom edge of the body.

Basically I'm trying to figure out how to nip rust in the bud down here despite this sandwich of body sheets.

I don't want to spray in the rocker panel before I paint. I wonder how spraying a rust grease after I paint with bed liner would affect things.

Taking off the running boards revealed a little too much in the way of problems, but better I see them now than later.

I had the start of that problem. I ended up sanding down the entire inside kick plate, that way you wouldt tell the color difference as much. bought the dplicolor exact match paint, at my local auto store and it turned out pretty dam good. You should clear coat it as well.

Strange, mine was DIRECTLY under the weather seal drain. Circular rust spot about 1.5" round. Fixed that last week. I also am having issues with my rear hatch, but that's a new door that's been painted from the previous owner. Appears to be a solid job, but it just goes to show any new paint is never as good as factory. It rusted behind the hatch right where the latch is, and I noticed while waxing it yesterday that it's rusting almost all the way across the top weather seal area on the window. If I jump on that fast I can fix it with minimal viewing area. I hope to get to that this week.

The other area that is very common of vehicles around here (besides frame and undercarriage rot) is the pinch welds at the bottom behind the front wheels. I'm going to grind them down full length and paint with some rock guard. This will likely have to be done every 2 years or so.

On my 98 I had rust in the rocker panel below the back door on the driver's side, right at the wheel opening. It rusted through so I cut it out and welded a piece of sheet metal in place, epoxy primed the whole rocker panel, coated it with 3M Rocker Schutz, and painted it with eurethane auto paint.

On mine, the PO managed to get a fine dust everywhere - fine as flour. It plugged up the gap at the bottom where the pinch welds are and retained moisture, rotting from the inside out. There was a big, soggy clump of it behind the rusted spot.

Did you rub it on your gums???

Only fine powder I've seen like that is in Baja, what are called the silt beds.. That being said I've also come across them in Copper Canyon, MX too.
