Dometic fridge power

Alright I haven’t found anything about this online so I need your guys help.

I just bought a dometic fridge for my rig I’m on a budget and looking for a way to power this up when I’m out with the family in the mountains or when I’m hunting and need some cold BEER. Wanting to know if anyone on here has a single deep cycle battery set up on there rig and does it work? I just need it for the fridge working for a day or 2 I never stay up there for days


Dual battery system seams a little more expensive and I’m trying not to go that route. Does anyone recommend something that I can use for my new fridge?

Yes, works just fine. I have run my ARB fridge on the OEM battery, a DieHard Platinum 31M, and now a 34 Odyssey, for 6 years and 220k miles.

OEM battery will run a fridge in 100 degree ambient temps for a day easy, probably 2. A deep cycle AGM will do 2-4

Can you post pics of you set up?
 
A single deep cycle battery will work fine, just make sure you are aware of the charging requirements (you will need to maintenance charge because your alternator is typically too low voltage for AGM and typically not a high enough output to keep it fully charged)

Google search "Batteries Plus X2 24F" and you will have your link.

I have not gotten to the point of a dead battery yet with the X2, with 24-30 hours of run time on the Dometic in heat.

Depends on the size of the battery. Group 31, you likely will need to maintain, but a group 27 or 24 size battery you won't need additional charging other than the alternator. I agree, lots of threads on this...

24F is about 80Ah, you should be good for up to a couple days unless you are in extreme conditions (extreme heat, empty fridge)

I have a 31M, about 110Ah, and it hits the highest voltage shutoff (11.8V on the dometic) on day 3 (daytime temps in the 90's, fridge usually about 75% full). On the medium setting it will go about a day longer and the truck will still start but I don't like to cycle it that much unless i have a specific need to.

(this is my experience with the Dometic CFX-40)

you still need to maintenance charge because 13.3-13.5V (what your alternator puts out) isn't high enough for most AGM batteries.

And the size of the battery doesn't really matter in this context, you still have the same load while it's parked, so if you have a short commute and are only driving like 30 mins each day and parking it the rest of the time that 30 minutes of driving isn't enough to replace the ~24Ah regardless of what size your battery is.

Echoing others here, but yes a Group 34 Odyssey is fine to run a Dometic (i have the CFX50) for 2-3 days without starting your vehicle.

Be careful though and make sure to turn off the wifi on the Dometic...if your fridge has that feature. its another small drain on your battery.

OP you could upgrade the battery to the Odyssey 34R PC1500
Order the spacer and this bolts in in 10 minutes. No cable mods needed.
Yes its spendy, but its no fuss.

Ignore the extra cables attached to the battery post in the photo they are for a dual battery system.
You will not need this mod for your requirements.

NOTE: if you order this battery make sure its the Reversed post "R"

Are you running a fridge in your rig? How long before fridge drains battery?
 
I thought about the dual battery thing for my friends 5th gen, it turned out that she wanted to use the fridge when camped for up to a week and have the battery charged without running the engine and also power a laptop during the day while still not draining the battery in 110 degree weather. It turned out that the only thing I could think of was to for us to make a custom roof rack that held her tent and a 100w rigid solar panel with a PWM charge regulator that is constantly connected to the battery and provides enough charge to recharge the battery and run the fridge and computer simultaneously. Here is a pic of how it looks, its all steel made with unistrut and mild steel. The solar panel is mounted flush with the front of the rack in front of the tent.
