I did it - sold my Bimmer this past weekend! I honestly didnt' think anyone would be shopping for a rear wheel drive manual transmission sports car until march, but what the hell do I know!

Time to start shopping! I found 2 limiteds I'm going to go drive during the week or this weekend just to try to solve the dilemma of buying the V6 or the V8. Common sense keeps telling me to get the V6 but memories of how the V8 in my Grand Cherokee used to sound with the flowmaster keep popping into my head!

Worst thing now is I might end up having to hold off for a month or two just because dealers around here seem to jack up the price on 4th gens and make the first line of the ad "READY FOR SNOW" - I'm not falling for it.

If you're going to keep the 4Runner fairly mild and not heavy on modifications, a V6 isn't too bad an idea...

That being said, if you want power, need to tow, going to add tons of extra weight in mods to the vehicle, I recommend the V8 it was one of my main reasons for getting one.

With gas mileage in mind, I would lean to the v6, but after seeing some of the scary reports of head gasket issues would push me to a v8. I would gladly pay a few dollars more in gas than get hit with a bill to replace a motor.

v8! The gas mileage between the two is like 1-2mpg hardly anything. Im glad i got my v8. Ask yourself this... If you buy the v6 will you be kicking yourself afterwards thinking you should have bought the v8? If its yes then v8, if no v6.

I may tow a small utility trailer and/or small boat in the future, but I don't even have either of those yet.

Truth is ... I have no "need" for the V8 - none at all. It's purely just me wanting it!

I commute a whopping 3.7 miles to work and 3.7 back so I don't do a ton of driving. My daughters daycare is a whopping 1/4 mile detour!!

The best "logical reason" i can come pu with for buying the V8 is for the occasional road trip. I think it might be worth it for the extra "oomph" on the highway inclines with wifey/kid/stroller/tons of stuff in the vehicle.

I'm excited to feel the difference in the two. I haven't driven a super torquey vehicle in a long time.

I don't think that you'd have any issues with the V6 in that situation. Both engines are great and I've been very happy with my V6... and I live at about 6500' in elevation which means that I have roughly 18% less power than you would have. I did a road trip a couple summers ago from Colorado to Indiana and really loved it down at that altitude! I towed a medium size U-Haul cargo trailer (loaded with furniture/household goods) all the way back to Colorado without issue. I sometimes think it would be fun to have the sweet sound of the buttery-smooth 4.7-liter, but I'd be a lot more tempted to put my foot in it everyday! I also like the option of having just 2WD with the V6 versus the V8's full-time AWD, but I'm odd like that!

Drive both and go with what you like... you only live once! Good luck shopping and we're looking forward to seeing what you end up with!

Think I'm going to go drive these 2 this weekend. I am taking a break from black cars so I wouldn't buy the black one, but I think these are good for comparison and for figuring out what I want to drive. The V6 is overpriced so realistically I will not buy either of these, but we'll see whta happens.

Both of those look like really nice runners. I am amazed that they can ask $20k for a 7 year old truck though. I suppose if the market supports its thats what they will ask. Good luck shopping.

Dont be afraid to expand your search radius. I got mine in Virginia because it had to be < '06, V8, Black and Limited. Not as easy as you think to find locally.

BTW, go with the V8.

Definatley expand your search. I just bought at 06' limited V8 with 118k for 13k with a 5/100k warranty. This truck runs as smooth as my Lexus Gs350 i just traded. V8 is where it's at man. The MPG won't matter if you do basic maintenance as you get higher mileage. With this truck the difference between the truck having 68k or 88k is negligible. don't rule out trucks with a couple extra miles. Mine has a lot of miles but runs smooth.

V8 for sure if you really drive as little as 7mi round trip for work.
