Done with OME, help me choose new setup for highway driving

Just moved from Colorado to San Diego. My driving changed from 20% highway, 60% city, 20% offroad / snow to 90% highway, 20% city.

Currently I have OME 885/896. It's simply overkill for what I use the truck for. I'm not looking to buy a new car (I just had the top end rebuilt as I was moving).

I have approx 120lbs of added weight (subs, amps) just after the rear axle.

I'm thinking of going back to stock coils with Bilstein HD or FJ coils with Bilstein 5100's.

I don't care about lift at all although it would be nice to have the truck level. I'm not going back to Colorado any time soon and I'm not going to be doing any offroading with this vehicle any more.

I want good highway handling at 75 - 80 mph speeds. OME is great for offroad but sucks at 80mph.

I want to do this as cheaply as possibly (See above-referenced top end rebuild and recent move).

Suggestions?

edit: I'd also like to be able to use 265/65-17 or 275/60-17 tires. I'm running 275-70-17 MT/R's now and the tire selection on that size is limited at best.

You could probably find someone to trade their stock suspension with you.

I recommend the FJC spring / Bilstein 5100. Way better ride all-around than OEM.

i second the fj coils with 5100s.

Post up on FJ Cruiser and 4R forums (both national and regional) and you should be able to pick up a low mileage stock system very cheap. Stock stuff are not in-demand items.

I think you should keep the OME and go explore some of the great trails you have in the area!

I've got some 0 mile stock 4Runner coils headed my way. Waiting on some 0 mile FJ coils.

I'm not going to keep the OME. I just don't drive on trails enough compared to my highway driving anymore. I used to live in Boulder and go on trails every week. Now I'm a soccer mom. Yikes! :lookout:

OME is not for sale. Setup has over 110k miles on it.
