Please elaborate w/ the dirt bike experience and bike motors that are expected to live ~300K miles.
30K miles?
Hell, show me any that can be counted on for 10K miles (not a freak case that made it - expected life span)?

I am an Engineering Manager responsible for 5 plants. I get paid to consider all the variables and make the best decisions for my company's assets. I use that same logic on my personal equipment and this product will shorten my equipment's life.
My personal experience on my FJ after switching from stock to K&N was this, I found more visible dirt on the clean side of the filter after the first inspection than the entire previous year of using OEM. It was filthy. I took the K&N off and returned to OEM.

It's late so please excuse my ignorance, but I never stated a dirt bike motor lives 300k miles or 30k or 3k or even 300 miles. You change oil every 5 hours or so... I clean my air filter very ride at the minimum. The piston and rings are supposed to be changed every 15 hours. And that's honda reliability...which is on par with Toyota reliability.

Awesome!!! That's really great to hear your personal experiences. I never have seen that to be true but hearing that it makes me want to look at k&n filters closer as far as long term life of the engine due to dirty air filters. Like I said I had never seen that personally, but I overdo the maintenance of all my cars except my Toyotas, which is why I bought them in the first place... I need something to be lazy with.
That being said did you suffer any damage to your car due to the dirty filter?

I'm not sure what's difficult for you to understand here.
You are touting oiled foam filters on your dirt bikes as the ultimate in filtration and by comparison should provide similar levels of protection on a 4Runner or similar type of automotive product. I am pointing out that its specious reasoning as you are touting the filtration performance on what is essentially a throw away engine in comparison to a 4Runner or other modern automotive product. The way I see most dirt bike motors run, I'm not sure it would make any difference whether they even had an air filter. Regardless, it is more than a little absurd to tout dirt bike motors as a comparison to a 4Runner and state that as a case for running oiled filters on a modern fuel injected 4Runner.
You can shoot me all the PM's you want about your experience - I don't really care. Even if you are secretly Jeremy Mcgrath, it won't convince me that oil filters have any place on my 4Runner.

My personal experience with a K&N in my 2001 Golf 1.8T was constantly destroyed/dirty MAFs. It was painful and everytime I went to clean the filter, the box behind the filter was dirty. Not loads of dirt but enough to make me stop for good.

David, everything is hard for me to understand, I'm just not that smart! I didn't say anywhere that an oiled foam filter ought to be on a 4runner. I was just stating that they work well in crappy dirty environments. I agree with you that they would be a poor choice for a 4runner air filter. Sorry that I didn't clearly convey that. And I'm not Mr. McGrath... Sadly.

A nice, polite response. I like it. If you keep your DB filters clean and oiled you will be rewarded at rebuild time with a clean engine. DBs do not have MAF sensors however.
That is my issue with K&Ns on autos with EFI. They foul the MAF sensor with oil and trip the check engine light.

Ive had a k&n intake on my T4r for 4 years now. I clean it every 3 months and load it with filter oil evenly. Ive never had any problems with a Maf sensor or anything else. But i also seafoam it once a year and i get a big improvement when i do it. Never had any probs with it or the seafoaming. But i run my engine hard every now and then and i keep 93 octane in it. 146k and running strong. I love the T4r and i cant wait to get another daily driver so i can start making some real progress on it. Everybody has they`re opinion i just wanted to share that ive had good luck out of my filter.
