Door automatically lock but why??

I have a 96 runner with power locks. In the past they worked just like any other power locks, they locked when I hit the button and thats it. Now out of the blue they will lock when I start the runner up, and unlock when I turn it off. I don't believe I have an aftermarket system but why would it start doing this out of the blue? Is it possessed??? Or does it like me and wants me to be safe??
Anyone have this happen? What do I do to go back to non-auto lock mode?

Mine has always done that. My wife's however, does not. We have the same year, mine an SR5 and hers a Limited..although hers has many more miles. I think hers just worn out?
It was a safety thing I assume. Maybe you had a loose wire that shimmied itself back in place. It took me a while to get used to it, and I would always start to open the door before it unlocked and ram my elbow in to the door.

I have a 2001 SR5/Base and it doesn't do it. The only thing it does is lock the doors if they haven't been opened after a few minutes of being remotely unlocked.

It is a programmable feature. Some were sold with it on and some were programmed off by the dealer or previous owner.

You can program it yourself with the key fob. Shoot me your email address in a PM and I'll send you the dealer pdf with instructions to enable or disable the auto lock.

Sometimes they get dumb and revert back to previous settings.
