Door Lock Actuator failure

Help. Changed the actuator and ........nothing

I ended up ordering a drivers door actuator from eBay bathe actuator rebuild guy. Great service and it arrived in two days. I pulled the old one out and replaced it with the rebuilt. Got it all put back together and.........wait for it............nothing. The door lock using the drivers door switch would not lock the drivers door nip nothing nada. It would manually lock but would not lock using the door lock switch. What is happening? Any ideas? The fuse looks good. All other door locks work ( I also swapped out the rear hatch lock assembly. Worked like a charm!). Any ideas. HELP! Thanks. Phil

2004 4Runner sr5 4wd 205k miles, love this truck!, we actually have three of them, we also have two 2003 sr5 4wd, one silver and one dark blue. Love all three of them.

Pull out the two plugs on the top of the computer module on the rear hatch for about 30 seconds. Plug them back in and everything should start working again.

Do I need to unplug the computer module on the back hatch for the drivers door lock actuator too. I did it for the rear hatch lock set replacement and it worked great. I did not realiz that the computer module on the back hatch also impacted the drivers door actuator. I did remove the negative battery cable. Removing the cable Didn't work for me. Thanks. Phil

Mine just failed. Again.

I had the drivers side door fixed months ago.
Now the passenger side is failing.
Toyota service department admitted that this is a huge recurring issue with 4runners, Tacoma, and Avalon.
They also admitted that eventually, they all go out.
Yet ... Toyota has not done a recall.

I'm going to look in to a class action lawsuit.

Can somebody help with recognizing the sound from the left door actuator?

Few month ago the weird sound appeared in the left door in our Toyota 4Runner 2004. Actuator works pretty well: we still can open and close the door. And we feel a little bit tired of this sound and if somebody can recognize the problem we would really appreciate the help.
My husband disassembled the plastic part of the door and checked all wires and connections: everything is just fine. But the access the actuator takes more time and he would be highly interested in knowing what's wrong before disassembling the whole door on parts.

Thank you!

I had the same sound, it's the actuator going out. You should order a new one ASAP. Check on ebay, a guy is selling refurbished ones for like $50 with a core exchange.

Thank you for the reply, Mike! Did you change the whole part or only the motor inside? I'm sure that we can disassemble it by ourselves and I don't want to pay extra for a whole new thing if we can change only small part of it.

I replaced the whole part. It was quicker to replace it then to repair it for me. Good luck and please let us know on how the final repair went.

Lots of good information here, nice to stumble upon others that have had similar issues. Currently my drivers side rear door has gone out. Definitely annoying since I tend to put small stuff back there, like a short grocery run, instead of opening the rear hatch.

I know this is digging up an old thread, but is there any chance someone has the name of the rebuild guy's ebay page? I've browsed ebay for some of the parts, just want to confirm the guy to purchase from.
