doors on or off?

I say keep 'em off:surfer: here in arizona we run doors off all the time on our 1st gens in the winter though, in the summer you gotta keep the AC inside. Im gonna be making a set of quick release hinges for my 3rd gen soon. Also if you wheel hard there is nothing better than being able so see what is going on around you. I agree a set of tube doors would be sweet.

Finally a few people agree with me lmao.. J-moneys doors look sick, would like to have a set.. Let me know what you come up with as far as a quick release hinge. I cut my pins and replaced them, but honestly its easier and faster to put em back on if you just unbolt it- its a pita trying to hold/slide and line up the pin(all while your gf is silently laughing/swearing at you)

Someone asked about the control arms being red.. theres this sh$t called paint and it comes in colors and red is one of them.. brakes and skids are red also..

Thanks for your opinion, but i dont get the gas mileage and all that BS.. No one mentioned saving gas etc. Your tripping out on the negative stuff.

Its not a style contest for me. I really dont care what my 4runner looks like. Its for wheeling, and thats basically it. Plus its super easy to put the normal doors back on. I takes less than 5 minutes per side. If it made the day more fun then it was 100% worth it

My comment was towards the OP's Truck. Not your truck. You actually have some type of door (tubular) plus you have the bumpers and tires to match. I guess we were posting at the same time and my post is out of context.

The OP's truck is Bone stock and with no doors on it, It looks like a crime scene.

ahhh I see. Yeah we basically posted at the same time. when I first cut the pins I went for a drive with no door at all, and It was kind of scary. I wanted something there.

And thanks for the comment SRS4runner. My pins are 5/16 bolts because i couldnt find long enough pins. You have to grind down the end to a point to help them line up. The very first time i put them in it was hard, but once you get the little bushing thing out the should go in really easily. check out 4xinnovetions.com he sells some pre fabbed door hinges with pins. they would be great for a set of tube doors. I made all of my own hinges ect on my doors to keep costs down. I think im into them about $50. Im finishing a set for an 09 taco and i think Im going to make back doors for mine today.

You bought the Runner to make you happy... If it floats your boat rock it!

There are many advantages to doors off if you are out wheeling. You have better visibility, less body to destroy, and as J-Money pointed out it adds a new experience to wheeling. NOW I would make sure you run some kind of tube door to add support, with out them you would be counting on you door pillar alone for protection. My doors will be coming off and getting tube doors for wheeling.

Well wtf lmao.. Negative feedback is never a bad thing- and atleast some were funny... I took them off only because I hate jeeps and thats one of the only things they got on me, so i figured why not. granted it would look better if the truck wasnt so stock but its still fun to ride around without them.. The tube doors sounds like a great idea tho I havent seen them on a 3rd gen yet. Any pics?

Check out j-money$$$'s build. He just made some tube doors and is finishing off the rears today.

Something else to think about when wheeling doorless- although a full box frame truck, these things are built with some thinnn steel and you will likely twist the frame and body- causing headaches when doors don't close perfectly and let water leak through the seals in the rain (ask me how I know...)

While I probably wouldnt wheel much if ever without doors- the closest place to wheel for me is 3 hours away.. I still like the idea of no doors or tube doors. Ive seen alot of tube doors for the older 4rs but not for the 3rd gens. So outside of making them myself what kind of options are out there?

You could steal them, but i dont reccomend that option.

Lmao, yea john I'll get right on that, Me being in county with a bunch of guys Ive put in there probably wouldnt work out in my favor..

I know I know old thread. Did you relocate your speakers, jeeps put them on they're roll cages for that reason. That's hilarious. How long did you run it like that? Wind noise was probably horrible. Haha

Thats one thing i miss about my tj taking doors off and cruisin down highway with my left foot on the slider . I dont think the front two look bad off but the back two do absolutely no nothing for being able to see more. Jeeps and fjs started the no door thing which is cool but when jeep went with 4 doors on a wrangler they ruined the jeep wrangler

haha for real, old thread but now you're giving me ideas... :D

It's your rig, do what you like. Personally, I think 4 doors without doors doesn't look good. 1st gens, FJ40s were mentioned above, and both look good without doors, as do 2 door Jeeps. But 4 door vehicles just look like they've been stripped by thieves with no doors. Just my opinion (and opinions are what you asked for, a while back anyway :)).
