They are noticeably louder compared to the Nitto RG R/T. For a brand new MT they aren't bad. Definitely on the quieter side. It's a progressive scale from AT, RT, MT. It'll take some time to feel them out in different conditions but I'll be in some mud this weekend and plenty of rain.

Also, something else to consider. The BFG KM3 is not much bigger than the 285 Nitto RG. This is my only real big complaint. If these came in a 305, I'd say that would be closer to the true size of a 295 RG. These aren't as big as my old 295 Nitto RG's that's for sure. Nitto RGs in 295 were 3 mph off on the speedo. These are almost dead on, just like my 285 Nitto RG's. I also had to space out my fenders and make more room for the Nitto RG's in 295. These fit just fine without my spacing I did on the OEM fender.

In this picture you can kind of see the gap between the fender and driver door. I used a longer bolt and a couple of washers to push out the bottom of the fender to create additional clearance for the bigger 295 RG tires.

Interesting size compassion re 285 RGs. I am ready for new tires and debating 255/80/17 or perhaps the KM3s in 295 to fill out the wheel wells a bit more.
Does the increase in tire size lead to more aggressive CV boot angles?
Are you even able to get a good center hub to fender measurement with those wheels (due to the hub being so inset?).
How much front end lift are you working with?

I’d say go 295 for the KM3 if you are ok with the added weight and loss of power feeling. i have 4.56 gears so it’s easy for me to run 295 and bigger.

I’m not a fan of the 255/80 tires i wouldn’t go more narrow than the stock 265. I’ve read plenty of the threads about the benefits.

If you want something in between just go 285 KO2 in load C. Not a big 285 and still pretty light with a decent contact patch.

To compare to my setup. Ground to fender in my garage is 38” front and 39” rear with these 295s.

Tires don’t changed CV boot angles. Your lift does.

Gotcha. I am currently running RGs in 285/70/17.
Thanks for the detailed info.
I appreciate it.

Rear bumper looks sweet. What thickness of material is used for it? I'm probably going to just build my own rear bumper and get some pieces bent up using a break so that there isn't so much welding which is prone to cracking. Looks awesome though.

could you post pictures of how to do this fender spacing you explained you did for the 295s?

Thanks! It’s all 3/16” steel. I agree with getting material bent up. There are areas for great improvement on this bumper of it was a bent price instead of welded but I understand they need to make shipping easy and cheap. GL with your build!

I can this weekend. I’ll take some detailed photos for what needs to be trimmed and spaced out. I think it would help the community greatly. Everyone will be running 17x9 -38 and 295s once they see how easy it is :D

Thanks for the info, yeah it's low priority but I'll do something in the future I'm sure.

any luck? i know you mentioned it was raining alot.

Thanks! haha sounds good! It's tough planning things with those guys. Last great trip I planned was the Chatt Monthly Off Road trip. Hit me up on IG and we can get together for a ride.

Thanks Willy1!

I picked some new coils to handle the extra weight. Dobinsons 314 up front and 675V in the rear. Long travel rear shocks are on back order but plan to get those soon also. The 675V is rated for stock weight for 3". With the rear bumper I netter a solid 2.5" or slightly more. Rides great as well.

Went with red this time around. Might end up painting them some other color once the yellow shocks come in. Not looking for any McD's sponsorships here. Installed the rears this weekend. Haven't installed the front bumper yet. Still waiting on my fogs and winch. just collecting parts at the moment.

I have 5100’s and was about to order the T1/T12 setup. I don’t generally carry much weight except for 3rd row. I love the idea of Dobinson coils all the way around but really only want about 2 to 2.5” of lift. Now that you’ve had both, which do you prefer? I do occasional moderate trails and mostly highway driving. Definitely needing some extra clearance on the trails. My K02’s do quite nice though.

They are both great options. My experience with Wheeler's coils has been plagued with sag/loss of height.

The Dobinsons coils seem to keep their height better and match up well with the 5100s.

Oh, and the third row will effect the final height of any coil. So hit up Dobinsons Mike and he will get you taken care of :D

Hit some trails in Chattanooga this past weekend. Weather was not ideal. Lots of rain and due to a jeeps broken steering box we had to turn around and back track through 3 river crossings during a monsoon. We were prepared to camp out for the night if we had to. We ended up making it out safe. Water was up to the headlights on the way out. Of course, I didn't have my snorkel, haha but the air filter came out clean. Glad I had the ARB dif breather setup.

This rock and tree were a tight fit. I was turtle'ed for a minute but got through.

I might switch up from my 285/75R17 RG to the 295/70R17 KM3. Will be paying attention to your opinion of the tires over time. I'll have a few months left on the RG yet.

I had the KM3's in a lot of mud last weekend. I was very impressed with them. Much better than the RG's and KO2's obviously since it's a MT. I am very happy wtih these tires. Just wish they made the KM3 in a 305 since BFG tires run small.

Floating through this week like....

I ordered some Icon Uniball UCA’s, MT Icon long travel rear shocks, new winch, and some Factor55 goodies.

Group camping trip in SC this weekend. Just some lake side relaxation. Maybe catch some fish and read some books.

Trying out the new Gazelle T4 Hub my wife got me for my bday. First time camping on the ground in a long time.
