Doug Thorley headers for 5TH Gens

Doug Thorley has come out with some headers and pre cat deletes for the 1GR-FE engines in our 5th Gens's. Underdog Racing Development
These are not CARB legal, like most aftermarket headers, so you will have to put your OEM ones back on to pass smog inspection. Probably be over 300hp with a new exhaust.

This is very noteworthy and encouraging that companies are coming out with aftermarket stuff now on almost a weekly basis for our 5ths.Especially performance stuff like these headers, upcoming supercharger and the ARB lockers.

I have been in contact with URD and someone there has a new Trail Edition .They are working on a supercharger for it and should be out this fall.
I wouldn't be suprised to see numbers around 400hp or more with a supercharger, headers and a true dual flow thru exhaust .

That's pretty cool. It would be nice to know what the gains actually are for them though. I love how "Awesome power gains" is a bullet point.

Awesome power gain is all the technical data you need. Add a cat back and you double the awesomeness.

Seriously though, I'd be interested in adding a few more horsey and a bit of torque for a reasonable amount of money.

Man I'm pretty close to these guys...I wonder if they will need anything in for testing...

I like a good exhaust, esp if it increases performance, but I'm not all about deleting cats or a super loud tone.

I wonder if an aftermarket cat w/an o2 sensor could be placed further down the exhaust to avoid the error codes and keep it within spec?

URD will have a bunch of extra add-ons that you can install to make the computer believe that you still have the O2 sensors. They offer all this good stuff on the Tacoma which at one point I looked at. The Doug Thorley headers are probably the long tube which will make a ton of extra torque, I had the short tube's on my Tacoma which were CARB legal since they kept the first 2 cats. In order to have the long tube headers, you'll have to omit the first 2 cats. This is when you install their O2 simulator. I think Gadget over at URD recently bought the new 4Runner, not sure though. If the 4runner they have actually does belong to one of them, that thing is gonna make a sick amount of power. They will probably install everything onto it, be the fasted 5th gen anywhere.

I also contacted URD a while back about a supercharger for the 5G. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

With the new engine you they should be able to get more than 400hp, with all the right stuff guys like gadget over on TW get more than that with our older 4.0 . Check it out

I recieved my Doug Thorley headers from URD today and they look pretty darned good. They will be going in this week end unless something comes up. Going to start soaking the nuts and bolts on the exhaust with aero-kroil penetrant tomorrow.

The O2 Sim from URD didn't come with directions but they look like they are plug and play for the 5ths now.
The older O2 Sims for the 4ths and FJ's had to be spliced into the ECU ,which can be a little unnerving and a pain in the butt tracking down the right wires!

Harper, From the looks and sounds of it, If I didn't know any better I'd say you were on the waiting list for the URD SuperCharger?:thumb3:

Who wants to bet Harper has the first supercharged 5th in the USA?
Hope you can send us a sound clip with those babies on there.

Harper, you sure are lazy when it comes to moding your rig. Such neglect....

Looking forward to your first impressions...

lol ,Nope ,with TRD supposedly working on one too,I'll wait for the comparison before plopping 5+ grand down.
Hopefully ,new exhaust and a CAI,when they come out any day now, will satisfy with a little extra umph and better sound for now. Know a local shop that bends up custom stainless dual exhaust and needing a smaller profile muffler too.
ARB rear locker and possible re-gearing from a 4 cyl is probably next.

You would lose that bet Deke!I believe Gadget over at URD bought a red TE and will probably be the test bed.:pimp:
I'll get my daughter to make a video with sound clip.

I know, ,if I wasn't so dang lazy I would put them on tonight after work, right!lol
It's going to be harder on mine as some of my BB skids and possibly my on-board air have to come back off first to get to them or I probably would start tonight.

Those look like shortys but I may be mistaken.

The shorties would be half that length and they wouldn't have a flange on the end. The shorties get welded to the stock cat's. I had them on my 08 Tacoma, only way to stay legal here in California.

Edit: They probably use that box for other parts that are California legal. As far as I know, if the factory cats get omitted, the vehicle is not California Legal anymore for on road use. BUT, if they are somehow legal now, I'll be adding them to my Christmas List!!!

are those the long tube headers? why are they legal in cali all of a sudden?
Longer and bigger then they look in the pic probably because they have bigger primaries then they made for the other Toyotas. They are only making the long tube ones for the 5th's as the pre cats are right on the oem manifolds.I need to check that they sent me the right ones but they look exactly like on the website and are marked 10' FJ and 4Runner.
Here is a pic of DT shorties for a Taco in comparison.Underdog Racing Development
Shorter and leaves room to reweld the fronts cats on.

I saw that on the box about being Cali legal even though URD says they are not?????Pot is practically legal in Cali now so who knows?
