Nice purchase man! What did you do w/your old 4Runner, and how much did you pay for the new one?

My brother will be driving the old one. I paid 8500 for the new one. My dad graciously paid for 2500 of it, so only 6000 came out of my pocket.

Keeping it in the family huh? Right on. You took a gigantic leap ahead with the modifications in picking up the new truck, so I'd say it was a good move.

Even though it's got alot of the big stuff already done, there's always room for improvement. Have fun w/the new S/C.

Got some work done today. Started off by swapping out the passenger side CV, torn boot, but I took it off road with that torn boot, so its life was over.

After that I wanted to figure out my loose steering issue. I could move the wheel 15 degrees each way without moving the tires, I could also hear a popping. Every steering component is new on this truck minus the PS pump. New rack, tie rods, ball joints, bushings, etc. So why didn't it steer like a new truck?

I found the solution here:

Diagnose and Fix Steering Play/Rattle - TTORA Forum

I never heard much if any talk about that source of steering wobble here on T4R, so I figured I would give it a try. 30 minutes later I had the steering column out and welded the joint. It completely fixed the wobble I had. I had the job done in under an hour, mainly because I have my own welder.

Pictures of the process:

I then tack (booger) welded the slip joint on two different sides. Although this joint develops play, the two pieces are hexagonal so you could never develop that much play to the point that you lost control of steering.

Done deal.

The steering was perfect after this fix, as it should have been.

So any of you who still have steering slop after LBJ replacement this is another very likely source

I saw your mickeys on CL. Did you sell them yet. If not, I would like to buy them.

BTW. You should be able to sell the addicted bumper for what ever you ask for. It fits Taco's too and there should be a huge market here.
