DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

If I end up in an FZJ 80 by the end of July, I'll be ready for the Rubicon, immediately. Haha

Otherwise probably at least 2 years until my 4Runner is ready for that trip.

lol If you wanna make the trip up here, you're more than welcome to come with us on the TTORA trip to run Snake Lake Trail again. You can make it fine with your locker and sliders.

Sliders are here! BigFishAllDay you rock man, I'll definitely be putting these to good use!

Also, thanks to ToyTec Lifts for these sliders! Not many companies do this type of stuff for their customers. It means a lot.

Quick question for sn0wrunner - both have "R" written on them, I'm guessing for "right side", BUT they are different. So just wondering which one is driver and which one is passenger. Reference pic below. Thanks Jeff!

Going to grab some paint tomorrow and get them painted, hot pink of course. I'll try and get them welded on either Saturday or Monday.

There isn't a right and left for those. They can be put on either side. You gotta be excited to get them welded on! Congratulations man!

Ohhh ok yeah they looked basically the same besides the holes. I was thinking from your PM there was a driver and passenger side. Yeah man, definitely excited! Maybe I can paint them tonight and get em welded tomorrow.... we shall see.

Alrighty, Sliders install 101:

- Part Uno -

Step one:

Scrub sliders with a metal finishing pad ($1.99 at hardware store). Wipe clean with a cloth.

Wash sliders with soap and water to get all the dirt, grime, blood, hair, and DNA evidence off, rinse clean.

Beautiful.

Step Two:
Sweep out painting area of dust and debris, and dead bird:

Step Three:

Set up your professional painting booth and make sure you are using a 1200 thread count Egyptian Cotton painting sheet for effect, and to cushion your sliders as you paint them.

Paint used:

:painkiller:
Rust-oleum Primer (Two regular cans, or if you're cool enough - the can with 25% more)
Rust-oleum Semi-Gloss Protective Enamel
Rust-oleum Clear Coat

Step Four: Get Your Ass To Work

One coat of primer, ah ah ah:

Let your glorious primer job dry overnight.

More tomorrow.

Nice job and props to BFAD for donating them. Might want to tape up the mounting plates so they don't get paint on them for when you weld them on. The sliders will definitely step your 4runner up a notch.

Can you tell me more about the "Add dead bird" part? Does it have to be that exact species of bird, or will any dark grey & white bird work? Does the size of the bird matter? Thanks in advance man, I just want to make sure I add the right kind of dead bird. :loco:

Ok, really though, glad to see you got the sliders. They look like they'll do the job. What's up with the gusset on the middle leg of the one on bottom, in the top photo, in your first post? All the other gussets are in line with the leg of the slider, but that one is parallell? Is it supposed to be like that for some reason?

Can't wait to see the hot pink paint!!

:lmao: An African Swallow to be exact

I noticed that too. I'm not sure what's up with the gusset lol no idea. Maybe someone derped a little, I'm not worried about it though.

It's hard to be worried about anything when they're free, right? If indeed there was derping involved, it wouldn't take but 5 minutes to cut that gusset out of there and weld it in the same direction as the others.

HOT PINK HOT PINK HOT PINK. Why do I see black paint in your pics. Is this a psych out?

Haha yup exactly. I actually might snag some metal scraps and add a couple more gussets for fun, if there's room.

I switched caps to psych everyone out. But first I need to get some My Little Pony decals to add the final touches :D I was thinking Hello Kitty, but it's just so overrated these days :lmao:

I've been highly considering doing a layer of plasti-dip and then paint that is neon green or pink on some random body panels or wheels, just for kicks.... just a temporary color scheme.

I'm in the process of moving, but once things calm down, it might be a fun way to waste 20 bucks

Hmmmm interesting. I think you should tiger stripe camo it.

Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate? haha

Nice sliders! I am one welding source + garage away from getting a set myself... maybe by the end of summer. Curious to see how they look when you get them all mounted
