Nice sliders! I am one welding source + garage away from getting a set myself... maybe by the end of summer. Curious to see how they look when you get them all mounted

Step Five: Huff Paint!

Four coats of fresh Semi-Gloss Black paint freshly shaken from the deep mines in the long lost land of Rust-oleum:

So shiny and new.

My day off was spent waiting for paint to dry, just how I like it. Unless I can get some welder time tomorrow, these will hopefully be welded on Monday.

Sliders

- Part Dos -

Step One: Grinding!

Mock up your sliders, mark the mounting points to your frame and start grinding away, like you mean it.

My bald self trying to fix part of my trailing arm mount to get the sliders flush, and what appears to be a Budweiser football helmet magically floating above my truck:

Step Two: C-Clamp the sliders to your frame in the desired position and tack weld in place. (Not the actual C-Clamps, genius. Tack the sliders)

Step Three: Weld that shit.

Find someone who can weld better than you if you don't have much experience (like myself). In my case, my buddy Andrew was kind and eager enough to weld these up for me.

Also, disconnect your negative battery cable while welding on your truck. Ya never know.

Make sure to leave a bit of room for some frame flex (note the bottom weld, about 2 inches)

Thanks man, yeah I was a bit tired today so I wasn't feeling too creative finishing off the last part of my half assed write up lol. Glad you enjoyed it though! The IROK's are treating me well!

Oh I picked up some black 2" grip tape, and I also grabbed two different designs of skateboard grip tape for fun ($5). Not sure yet if I'll use some on the sliders, but I'll dink around with it and find something to put it on. Who doesn't like skulls?! lol

So as some of you know, I've been trying to plan a straight axle swap for a while. I've thought up options, changed my mind, changed my mind again, and again, and again. I was going to drive out of town today and pick up a HP dana 44 to rebuild, but right as I was about to leave I received a phone call from a friend of mine who is in the middle of swapping his 3rd gen. He decided to change his build and use a dana 60 and a 14 bolt rear, so he offered to sell me his already completely built axles and steering setup.

Specs:

HP Dana 44 (driver drop)
Arb Air Locker
5.13's
Reid Knuckles brand new
New bearings, seals, ball joints
Toyota Flange
Superwinch manual hubs

Ford 9"
Arb Air Locker
5.13's
Trussed (there is also armor for the bottom of the pumpkin, not installed yet)
New bearings, seals, etc


Steering:
IFS Box (89-95)
New High Steer setup
DOM tie rod, drag link


Everything is ready to go. This is a 3link/3link build. I still need a T100 oil pan and accessories, I need to buy an ARB compressor for the lockers, and a rear disc conversion. Going to most likely run (2) 12" ORI's for the front, and (2) 14" ORI in the rear. The links are already made, just need to add bungs. Also going to modify my existing panhard to use with the rear. Hopefully cutting everything off beginning of next week, so keep your eyes peeled on the classifieds. I will have (2) 882's w/ topouts and a trim packer and the OME 90004 struts assembled for sale, some 9 wraps and shocks and various IFS parts for sale.

Estimated build time: 2 months. (End of september)

35's should be fine for a while. The axles are geared to 5.13's.

Plus they should help keep the 44 alive for a while :boom:

When I originally had my D44 I was gonna put under my pickup, (Granted full chromo everything) with my 38's would have still been pushing it for strength and longevity

Yup 35's will stay for a bit unless I can trade for some 90% tread 37's lol. I'll need to trade my wheels though, bolt pattern is a ford 5 lug pattern.

A big selling point was the front and rear ARB's. I would have prob gone detroits front and rear for price, but it would be eating tires.

that was another thought, except the knuckles are brand new Reid's @ $500 a set. So we'll see. There are options. Depends if I can find a nice set of 5 lug wheels too.

I'll see how long it takes me to start breaking axles. They are easy enough to replace. My plan was to build an axle with chromos, but I'm not going to touch this axle yet since it's already built. There are plenty of parts around for the 44 and 9". I'll start here since I'm still a newb to this stuff. I'll run em and learn as I go.

Have they been installed yet? Can you exchange them for 6 lug Reid's?

Everything's already installed and setup on the axles themselves. The steering is already done too. I just need to swap everything over to my truck.

LOL there will be A LOT more pics next week . This will be pretty cool though too - I'll be pulling my truck up next to my friend's and swapping everything over, so we are SASing two third gens at once. We will be rolling out of the shop at the same time... mine might be done a little quicker depending on how long it takes for him to build the 60/14bolt. But there will be some sweet dual SAS 3rd gen wheeling pics this winter!!!
