LOL I was just thinking of that post the other day too. "Damn, this is happening sooner than expected!" World peace is impossible, I'll start campaigning for WW3 now.

I never paid my gas bill either.

This is working out much better though. I'm doing as much as I'm capable of doing on this build, and learning so much at the same time. Link geometry, axle teardowns and rebuilds. I haven't had this much fun in a long time.

Yesterday and today, the guy I hired to do my welding did not show up. Said yesterday he was stuck in the bay area. I texted him this morning and he said he was on his way back up at 11am, but had to drop his gf off and then by the time he got back in town, the day would be over. Needless to say I was upset. Really cool guy, but I can't be dependent on a no-show.

F*** that noise. So thankfully my buddy Andrew saved my day and helped me get my steering box permanently in place. I drilled the holes and everything was gravy until we put the sleeves in, then the bolts would not line up. Literally off by 1/16th of an inch. It fought us for about 2 hours lol. Andrew drilled out the holes even more and after countless times trying to install the steering box it was still giving us trouble so Andrew busted out the plasma cutter. It's in! Nice and snug. I measured and marked up the frame plate for him and he welded it up for me. I don't give a shit if the welds don't look like jesus himself burned em. As long as they are strong and they hold. I trust his welds. So, thanks to Andrew, we are now able to burn in the link mounts in the morning.

I went out to Oroville at 730am and bought 20' of 4"x 1/4" steel so my fabricator could make the rest of the brackets. He got em all done today so I'm looking forward to tacking them on tomorrow!! Progress!! :D

After the link mounts are in place, we move on to making coilover towers!

Still have a laundry list:

Cut t-case crossmember and fab a new section to fit front driveline
Extend drivelines
Coilover towers
Run stainless brakelines, bleed
Mount ARB compressor and run air lines... going to run stainless braided lines instead
Install power steering cooler
Order coils and assemble coilovers
Steering shaft
Hookup PS lines and bleed
Rear frame plates
VSS

I'm going to have to do a bit of cutting on my ODL bumper since I moved the axle so far forward. Should be interesting. I'll see how much when I see full stuff.

Of course there are more odds and ends I"m forgetting.

haha I've got a 74 EB, detroit in the 9", OX Locker in the front D44 on 33s. Long arms up front and 3 1/2" 11leaf packs out back. Rock Sliders, Quarter panel protection, custom cage with suspension seats w/ 5 point harnesses. Rhino lined tub, built 302 and a C4. I built the BEEFY front bumper in high school when i first learned to weld.. Ive wheeled it allover the southeast, Tellico(RIP), Wind Rock, River Rock, Superlift Park in Hot Springs AR....Hopefully this winter ill have the cash to ship her out here.

Custom designed DOM cage hand bent and notched by my friend and I, about 110' of tube in it.









Shes a ****ing beast. Unfortunately the Air Force would only pay for gas in one car for our move out west so the ol' girl got left home. :(
 
Damn! You've been holding out on us! Very cool truck! I always wanted one of those back in high school. A buddy of mine had one, they were a lot of fun. And now I randomly have a Bronco axle under my truck lol
 
Rear frame plates are welded and done. I spent all morning with a sawzall and a grinder lopping off the remaining IFS brackets in the rear, including the panhard mount (wasn't sure if we were going to reuse it) that were in the way.

Going to have to move the exhaust back a good foot and a half because the cat is in the way up the upper front link, so I'll cut it tomorrow morning. Lower links go in tomorrow. I'll get my driveline measurements and angles and drop the DL's off at High Angle to get them extended and balanced (0.095 wall).

Mocked up the rear 14" coilover and found a good spot for it, so that's good news. My buddy also drilled out my pitman arm.

Lower links get finished and mounted tomorrow. Hopefully coilover towers will be made and mounted tomorrow.

Truck will/needs to be driving end of next week and we are on schedule! Anticipation is killing me.

Had to take the plasma cutter to the rear frame plates to fit over the rear frame brace (see in pics)

That buggy is pretty unique. Hopefully light weight to keep the front end alive. Can't wait to see your runner drivable....motivate me damnit!

Anyways here is your spring rates. The tricky part of this whole thing is that you dont know the unsprung weight and so i was guestimating for you based on a 4400lb weight and a 5000 lb weight. so you get an assortment of things. but here is the calculation i used:

"Shaft Showing" = "Shock Length" - (("Unsprung Corner weight" / "Initial Spring Rate") - "Preload Distance"

Initial Spring Rate = (Tender * Main) / (Tender + Main)

Anyways here is your Spring Rates that i found would work with your desired 2" - 3" preload request:

First 14" COs ( 6" Up and 8" Down )

Tender/Main - Ini Spring Rate - Formula - Shaft Showing (Up Travel)

175/250 - 102# - 14-((1100/102)-2.75) = 5.96"

175/275 - 106# - 14-((1100/106)-2.5) = 6.12"

200/250 - 111# - 14-((1100/111)-2) = 6.08"

200/275 - 115# - 14-((1250/115)-3) = 6.13"

200/300 - 120# - 14-((1250/120)-2.5) = 6.08"


12" COs ( 5" Up and 7" Down )

Tender/Main - Ini Spring Rate - Formula - Shaft Showing (Up Travel)

200/250 - 111# - 12-((1100/111)-3) = 5.09"

200/275 - 115# - 12-((1100/111)-2.5) = 4.93"

200/300 - 120# - 12-((1100/120)-2.25) = 5.08"

225/300 - 128# - 12-((1250/128)-2.5) = 4.96"

223/325 - 132# - 12-((1250/132)-2.5) = 5.03"


My Recommendations are:

Blue for a 1250 Corner weight

Red for a 1100 Corner Weight

now this is all if the COs are mounted completely vertical. once you start changing the angles thing start to change. but this should give you a decent idea of the spring rate combos you are looking for.

as well for your compression and rebound valving, my recommendation is to call ProFender and ask get their opinion on what you should do for those.

Hope this helps a bit and if you can try and stay away from the higher spring rates btw. it will make the ride really rough and you can compensate for body roll and what not with valving instead of trying to do it all with the coils. The higher you put that compression the more it resists the compression of the shock. mixing high compression with high spring rate will cause a super stiff ride but if you go less on spring rates with a higher compression it will smooth the whole thing out.

40's??? What in hell is he doing for CV shafts? Is that build on line anywhere?

an IFS buggy? :doh:

IFS is awesome in the go-fast stuff, and I've always said that if you build it right (ie, strong enough) it should be superior to a solid axle in the rocks too. I wanna see more of this beast!

It's a stock 1st gen IFS! I was a bit baffled as well lol That buggy flexes for dayyys though. Pretty certain he's going to rip it out and put a custom LT setup up front. He's gonna build it and sell it.

No build thread for it. Guess how much he bought it for?........ $2k. It also came with two more 40's with the same beadlocked wheels and some other goodies.
