DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

Holy shit there's actual tech in my build thread now! LOL

Thanks Ben! That was a huuuge help man! That gives me a perfect idea of what to order.

Your welcome bud. I can look into your valving a bit if you want. Once once your rolling then you really really really need to go weigh your rig. It is gonna help you a ton when it comes down to tuning and dialing everything. Especially your COs.

You were saying? :D

That buggy is freaking sweet. Saw it on time when I was in Vegas and damn that thing has had some serious money dropped into it.

I think people underestimate IFS a lot.

Too bad they don't make these CVs for us:

Solo Motorsports - 2nd Gen Taco LT kit

Wheels are swapped and lower links are in! Found the ol' tire mounting machine that hadn't been used in a long time and plugged the air into it and it worked great. Andrew and I swapped the wheels, went over to the closest tire place (Les Schuab) and they gave me some super short valve stems for free "because it wasn't worth the paperwork." lol

Corey cut the links, got the bungs in and welded em up. Nice beefy .250 wall links. These things are heavy! Took some more measurements and welded the backets to the frame. Barely had enough room for the drivers side rear lower link to weld. Lucked out not having to drop the tank.

Tomorrow we're removing the exhaust and making the front upper link, hopefully dropping the tcase crossmember and fabbing a new piece.

I'm ordering springs tonight as well as heims, misalignment spacers, bungs, and jam nuts for both panhards.

Dropping off driveshafts at High Angle tomorrow as well.

Don't mind that front upper link mount lol

We're going to make a plate connecting both of these link brackets to get rid of that gap... big ass rock hanger.

Man these 35's look small now after staring at 37's for two weeks.

Looking sick man. Makes be wish I kept my tons..... oh well. Maybe someday I can play with the big boys. :boxer::cheers:

Keep up the great work.

Are you planning on plating the frame side link mounts any more than that? I would consider bring some plates up the sides onto the frame for some extra support.

Those links are massive! Damn this thing is turning out so sick. You have no idea how jealous I am.... Some day.

Thanks! Yup they are burly!

Thank's man! Yeah the frame side link mounts will definitely be plated. We've got a few ideas floating around. We'll play around with it. I think we sat on the ground starting at it and a couple other things for a good 30 minutes at the end of the day throwing out ideas lol

Story of my life hahaha.

Thats good that you already have additional plating in the works. Would hate to see those mount start tearing the frame apart after a while.

Jesus how Long are this links??? You could have got away with a lot shorter links now if you come down on then you gonna be landing on them.

Just food for thought

Nothing wrong with that. they are probably 1/4-3/8 wall. Longer links means smoother suspension travel and more centered axle throughout the cycle.

Ha! Definitely! That would not be good. Hopefully the front and rear uppers will be done tomorrow. Then all that's left for the linkage are the panhards. I'm ordering heims, misalignment spacers, bungs, and jam nuts right now.

We will add plating for strength next week in the necessary places, but I just need to get the truck drivable and out of the shop with the quickness. So the little things like painting axles, links, etc. can wait. There are a couple spots I still need to grind clean (like the driver and passenger side trailing arm mounts), but that can wait. Most of the little stuff that's not in our way can wait because I can knock that out on my own rather than holding up the build.

LOL yup, they're around 37" IIRC. 1/4 wall.

We'll see when I cycle it, but I think we'll be good. My fabricator has built dozens of link setups and I trust him. He has his old-school ways of doing things and has had nothing but great results and very minimal tweaking.

Ok 37" ain't too bad actually. Well looks like your good then. Links are a royal b*tch!!! Gonna have some sweet ass flex with those though

And crazydubman, yeah I guess I do have to keep in mind that our rigs don't have a very long wheel bad anyway.

Looking forward to how your suspension is gonna cycle and your out boarding your rear COs correct. I will be doing something similar but with 2.5 COs.

Yup, gonna be mounted outside the frame in the wheel well. Ran into a small problem... the wheels I ordered only came in 4" bs or 2.5" bs. I ordered the 4" and now I'm choking on room to mount the c/o's. Still going forward as planned but I might need to grab some wheel spacers. Lame.

Ordered 10" 200#/ 14" 300# for the front 12's annnnnd 12" 200#/ 16" 250# for the 14's... we'll see what happens. I'll be playing with the nitrogen tank for a bit...

Hey you could always French the frame and "make" room for them ;) lol
