DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

Sick!

Now that you have had some highway miles and an amazing first trail ride, what would you change, or would've done differently?

i.e. spring rates?

Ridiculous build man. I love it.

Well, there's nothing I'd really do differently per se. But yeah, spring rates. I'll get the truck weighed. There's a feed store in town that has a scale I can use, but I'll be running these springs I have on now for a while. They're not too stiff, I like them. Body roll is minimal but I can get it to lean around turns if I want to. It's extremely smooth on the highway. I'll switch springs when I get the coilovers tuned.

If I REALLY wanted to do something differently, I would have put 16's up front and gone through the fenders and put 14's or 16's in the rear and sacrificed the rear cargo space LOL. BUT, this isn't that kind of build.

Perfect. Any plans to armor your butt? That thing is a beast. I love how you did everything. I feel like it wasn't long ago that you had that thing near factory. That piece of land looks like endless fun as well!

BTW, how do you like the 5.13's?

Yeah it's getting a full interior cage and a rear bumper at the same time. Went back to the drawing board and I'm going to have MP'S build it. We're going to design it. My buddy Corey wants to build me one like his, which I really like and it incorporates full rear quarter panel protection and it's a spare tire carrier.

I really like the 5.13's btw

Even with Taco IFS manual locking hubs the drivetrain loss you're recouping isn't significant. An acquaintance locally did the swap and didn't notice any measurable difference.

Well my point was purely theory...but I'd call downpour11 's extra 70 miles per tank a measurable difference, wouldn't you? that's almost 4.5mpg on a 16 gallon tank

congrats on the smooth shakedown run dude!

This is because you have the ability to unlock the hubs and remove the extra rotational mass from the drivetrain. My fabricator brought up the same thing to me. With the IFS, your passenger side wheel will disconnect, but your driver's wheel still turns the axle, diff, driveshaft and output in the case all the way up to the 2-4 shift fork.

It just spins the spider gears. The R&P, driveshaft, or t-case output don't spin in 2wd.

I bet most of the increase is the fact that the engine isn't working as hard with the 5.13's.

I was able to turn the driveshaft by spinning the driver's front wheel

Probably due to the truetrac. It won't do that with an open diff unless the ADD is locked. I've watched the front driveshaft through the shifter hole when i had it all apart once and it never turned.

Regardless, i came here for the hottie riding shottie and i'm currently disappointed with lack of said hottie....

So Rob....

Yeah this is what I was thinking ^^ I went from 3.91's to 5.13's. Huge difference for my engine. It's loving it.

Hahaha I took her out last Wednesday and we had a great time and she was all into it, texts me a bunch later that night about hanging out all next week (this week), wanting to do this and that, wanting to go camping, 4wheeling, etc literally making plans - then after that night, I haven't heard from her once LOL either something happened or I got completely ghosted. But whatever, I could care less. There will be others. Kinda got my hopes up? but it was more on her. Onto the next!

Ask Ben - smkd13 ... I texted him a pic lol

Well shyte that sucks man. That is one of my pet peeves is when girls pull stuff like that. Show a bunch of interest and then once they are not around you they straight up vanish into the wind. All well aint worth your time. Girls are crazy man, GottaBeTRD had a girls that was texting him and all kids of crap and then when it came down to hanging out later down the road she is all like I have a BF. I guess girls will do that when they are not getting something momentarily in a relationship. But then again I just stay away from them now. If they want my attention then they can work to get it lol

And as for looks (I think we can agree here downpour11):

I think she duck-faced me to piss me off lol Yeah I don't really give a shit - I just wanted to go to Rubicon hahaha Gotta remember what's more important here!

Your priorities are in order Rob. The Rubicon IS more important.

Now that I'm engaged, I better get my truck built and head down there as well, before it's too late.... lmao

I'm right there with you. That is why I have piles of parts sitting in the garage and credit card debt to pay off... its better to ask for forgiveness then permission. :D now that I'm married, I just need to find time to install parts not the money to pay for them.

I would love to but need to check finances and exact time to take possible friday or monday off work if needed.

I heard it has gotten a little easier this year? I think Jon is planning on heading up on the 28th. Not sure who with though.

Still need my diffs swapped for the new ones.

I'm probably going. We'll see how far in we get from Loon. I've never run it from Loon though. Making templates for the rest of the gussets and caps etc today. I need to cut and cap the rear frame-side panhard bracket because it's still hitting the coilover. I'm losing a good 5"+ of travel in the rear because of it. So by next week it should be done, then I'll fully flex it out.

Good stuff Rob.

I need those gears and front LSD in before I head out there but I would like to run it.

I was told to typically plan for 3 days to run it. Is that about right? Or should a Saturday and Sunday do it?

Yeah I'd plan for 3 days. Like I said, my first time there was in through the tahoe side down and up cadillac and that took us a good 3-4 hours with no hiccups constantly moving (3-4 hours just from Tahoe Side entrance to Rubicon Springs). Mein4x4 said he ran from Loon side up and out through Tahoe in a little over 3 days IIRC. IFS will be slow moving and pretty challenging but you should be able to make it. Bring some extra CV's just in case.

I figured we'd just go in through Loon and see how far we get in a full day, camp, then truck it back out.

I would be up for this. Start early Saturday morning then head back out Sunday afternoon. With my 2 week honeymoon that just happened, it would be good not to have to take another day off work. I could possibly stay with my friend in Sac the night before to make the drive up not as bad.

What about extra gas?
