DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

How /where did your steering box plates fail? You have me worried about my trail gear plates

All behind the steering box on the outer side of the frame. It kept wanting to pull the bottom bolt through the frame when I turned. With it twisting like that it ended up just ripping really bad. I had my frame plated with the 3/16" plate too. There is just so much stress on that IFS box, I need hydro assist. The IFS box is just an orbital lol If you're running 35's+, do hydro assist. I'm surprised my pump hasn't failed yet (knock on wood). I do drive pretty fast though over rocks, it's just taken it's toll.

Rob, I tore the whole frame on my 85 because of the stress of the Pittbulls and that was through a marlin IFS box plate. Hydro assist is the only way to go if your going to wheel hard. save up and get the PSC ram I just helped a friend put one on his 95 and it came out sweet. for 175 plus hoses it is hard to go wrong. POLY PERFORMANCE OFF-ROAD PARTS*::*Steering*::*Steering Cylinders*::*PSC Single End 8" Stroke Cylinder Assist Cylinder

Yeah it seriously took its toll on my frame. Should have hydro assist in within a month, fingers crossed. I have a lot going on this next month but I'll see if I can swing it. I was looking at that PSC kit too.

Im excited for the Ultra4 National Championship in Reno coming up. I got myself a hotel room at the Atlantis casino. Awards ceremony and after party! lol

Does PSC make a new steering pump for a 3.4? I can't find one and haven't called yet because I'm not ready to buy. Or should I just get a TG one... ugh.

And on the ram... probably looking at a 1.5". Thinking the 1.75" will be to slow for a 44?

I noticed a lot of those rigs have something mounted on the front. Are you forgetting something? Lol

Hahaha this joke still lives on I love it! You sell that winch yet?

I might get rid of this bumper beginning of the year or something. I need to build something stronger.

Wow they are proud of that pump. Im sure it is worth it though. that will be a great trip rob you will have a great time. Looks like the new business is going well. I'm saving up for a light bar and mounts, they look great on your rig.

as far as the the 1.5 vs 1.75 ram my buddy is running the 1.75 with 37's and he can't even tell that it is there. until he has to push his 4runner off of a rock with the tires and then it's obvious it's there. LOL Check if you need a 6" or 8" throw. Im pretty sure that the 44 is the same as a 60 and need an 8".

Rob,

how many lumens does the 41.5 in bar put out?

thanks.

The 41.5" we sell are 14,400 lumens.

Perfect thanks! I had figured it would be around that much.

haha ok cool. Yeah I've researched it some, i'd need to limit throw by about an inch-ish, but that's not a problem. Lets see if I can swing it! lol Thanks again Sam!

PSC started making them again but they quit for awhile. I used a howe set up, but you could get a 22r pump change the pulley and make a bracket.

lol the PSC 22r and 22RE pumps are even more expensive than the 3.4 pump. I'll prob just pony up and just get the PSC stuff unless I find a couple couple buddies have some parts they want to sell.

Yep I do! TBH I was kinda disappointed. I was hoping it would really speed up the steering, but it didn't make much difference at all. However the larger reservoir is a must. The PSC reservoir is awesome.

For reference I have a 2" ram, so it is trying to push large amount of fluid volume, and the speed of steering or lack thereof could be a result of not having a big enough return line I reckon. Eventually I am going to put on a 1.5" ram, the 2 is overkill. We had the 2" ram on the shelf and as usual I am trying to compensate for things in my life :p

Yeah, I meant the aftermarket pump they sell for a 4cyl.

Edit: that's what you said too....I might have a PSC pump, I will look in the shop. I know I have the res and inline cooler with the 10 an return line on the shelf.

By the way, you have to buy a bracket from Trail-Gear to get the PSC pump to work. An additional 30 bucks or so

Hit Fordyce again in my friend Karl's truck. Met up with a couple friends and made some new ones.

Almost rolled it twice, put a hole in the radiator (fixed with JB weld and eggs), and unthreaded a rear shock.

Flat towed a guy out who grenaded his transfer case.

One of the best trips I've had in a while!

Karl is rockin (3) of our 7.5" light bars

Refurbished phone has a working camera indeed LOL

Yeah that's my friend Brian's truck - he actually used Karl's truck for reference when building his and built it very similar.
