DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

We'll keep it going then.

With all that mass, you're going to need a lot more power than what you're putting down now.

Yeah it's gonna be a bit annoying on the road, power-wise.... but when this engine wants to die I'll swap in another and supercharge it. Otherwise the transfer case setup will handle the rest. One of those things where I could throw a 39.5" on there and it would still be an issue with power, so might as well just throw it on 42's and figure it out later.

Tires are here, shocks and air bumps are here, rest of my steering is here.

I'm swapping the front locker for a regular Yukon zip locker instead of the comp locker, so just waiting for that to arrive.

Finally found a Ford 205 last night.

Gave the Tacoma to a friend of mine to buy over time, running into some issues as he goes through it - I found a 4.7 V8 out of a Tundra last night for a great deal with harness near me so hopefully it checks out and he will swap that 3.4 out of the taco and throw in the V8.

Hoping to get the runner into my friends shop on Sunday. Fingers crossed this axle gets set up this week.

hey, uhh, we're gonna need an update here man. A month long cliffhanger is about all I can handle.
Did you get 'er all put back together? And did you have any random bolts left over?

Yep yep that's my bad. Well, got set back waiting on my front gear install. Finally got it knocked out and done a day before my buddy went into surgery. All parts are at my other friends house and truck is going in on Sunday. Pretty stoked.... I can't wait to see this thing chopped up again.

In other news, that red tacoma is finally smogged and wheeling. Turns out there was a fried wire before bank1 o2 on top of the tranny.....duh why didn't I look there!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::smash::smash: what a shitshow.

My friend put a ton of work into it and it looks way better. He is about to paint it. Engine has a knock. I ended up not buying that 4.7 because he didn't have the harness for it. Keeping an eye out for another 3.4 with a supercharger I can steal off of it. I dunno, lost a lot of money on that thing, at least it went to a good home and is being fixed properly.

Hoping for a 3-4month build on the runner (not a shop, so he's doing this on the weekends). It will be done before March though. He rebuilt the ultra4 car and a few other friends trucks - excellent work so I'm excited to let him go crazy on the runner.

Anyway, here are some random pics. This build will take off pretty quick so I'll try and post some more pics as it gets chopped up.

For those who don't know diffs...as I am still learning too... this is a ridiculous shim stack especially with no starting point as this is a new Solid Industries housing. But we got it all to work, backlash is at 0.11, run it.

These new Yukon diff covers are beefy, and I got it for $70. Score.

Finally decided to take a wheel out of the box.

Tires are in my garage.

Next pics will be of the build

Are you gonna be at KOH 2017?

Negative - all my friends are going to Moab in March so they kinda traded events mainly because of work schedules. My friend building the runner is going to Moab too so it'll be done before then. If it's done by March and I can trailer it, I'll try and go on that trip, would be an awesome first outing.

BTW - this truck is for sale. Come get it for $8,000. I'll give you a new cat and an AC clutch, go smog it and figure out the front axle, put a front driveshaft in and go. Will also give you the phone number to a friend in sac to retube the 60 for like $300. I'm over it. It runs great now!!

GF went and got an 01 DC taco, 3.4L, 4wd etc. Friggin torque converter goes out a month later, ruins the tranny, had to put a new one in. LOL time to at least recoup something.

That truck makes me happy. Any more photos of it?

Nah I don't have any more. I thought it would make me happy when I bought it but this thing is a demon. I sold it to one of my best friends. He had to put a ton of work into it, mainly because whoever touched it before it got to us did an absolutely terrible job at E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. He's having to re-weld a ton of stuff.

I'll eventually get some more pics of it once he spruces it up a little more and gives it a much needed paint job.

Oh- also, besides the front axle being bent - we pulled the diff cover and the ring gear is destroyed...wasn't set up right in the first place. The 35 spline outers he installed are too long too, AND he put the wrong hubs on and because they barely fit, he took a hammer to get the hub flush. Sure it fits now, but now you cant use em because he destroyed the hubs! LOL IDIOT!

All that has been buttoned up last week and he took it up to the snow last weekend and it did great. Blown R&P front with a spool, so screw it haha. When it want's to grab it'll grab.
