DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

Damn Rob, that thing is going to be huge!

What's your new project? You going to build a taco? Saw you sold the runner - to a good home though, I'm sure I'll see it a lot this summer.

Oh....update.....truck will be done by June, trying for a 4th of July virgin Fordyce run. It's in the shop but had some fabricator lag.

I'll post some pics in a couple weeks. Blackbox came in, it's purdy :)

Progress finally. Front 3link should be done this weekend. Gotta figure out how to package up this LC forward swing steering box as I'm right on the cusp of it being in the way of the coilover/bumpstop. Will probably kick the front coilovers back 8degrees to accommodate.

Virgin run will hopefully be Rubicon in June - we want to do a "Rubicon on 31's" run from Loon to Spider and back, then put real tires on. Should be pretty funny.

For the fuel cell, we will chop the spare tire carrier/crossmember and cut the floor out, sink in a fuel cell, then re-do the floor as needed.

That's what I forgot - I picked up a 2nd gen supercharger. So, I'll slowly start looking for a low mileage engine now. Will put the URD 7th injector kit on as well.

Also, blackbox/205 is built.

That will get installed, then build a subframe for the links. Still lookin like itll be done by June.

Family is doing great thanks!! loving where your Runner is going. Can't wait to see video of it out on the Rocks.

Ordered a 32 gallon Jaz cell 34" x 17" x 14". So we will cut out the floor of the cargo area and half sink it in there. I'm going to use the stock gas filler neck location so I will just run a hose over to the middle of the fuel cell. I really wish there was an option for the spout on the Jaz tank to be any location because i would have it moved over to the left side of the tank instead ... They are built to order so it's not like they have stacks of them waiting to be sold...at least right now they don't.

External fuel pump and a Holley dynamat pickup. Prob wont have a sender as my old tank was damaged so I'm used to going off the trip odo anyway.

I also ordered brand new carpet from www.stockinteriors.com as well as a big roll of sound deadening/insulation mat. $280 for the molded carpet - I think that is a killer deal. But flat rate shipping $150. Just an FYI for anyone wanting to replace carpet.

Blackbox/205 is in. I gotta strip the interior and say goodbye to the center console. Screw that thing. Time for cupholders!!!!!

New Artec brackets came in last week. Subframe is being built then link setup then allllll the small stuff!

Gutted the interior after work, the carpet was absolutely disgusting. Mix of 21 years of Arizona and California dust. So glad I'm replacing it and I am not OCD whatsoever...but that was nasty. Gear oil, battery acid, liquor, soda, beer, probably some salsa in there, tranny fluid, motor oil, metal, most of the foam from my drivers seat, and so many good times....AND I found $0.58...and a pen.

So we got the cases clocked all the way up to actually clear the frame rails, so it'll be a flatbelly at the frame. I thought we were going to have to drop it down 2" or so but it worked out great.

Apparently had a broken tranny mount as well...replaced that lol

El Gasso Tanko Treinta y Dos Galones came in today. Sub box is 14" for comparison. Should fit pretty perfect half sunk in the floor.

Also ordered a rear bench from PRP. I would've liked to put two low back buckets with a small console but they were just too wide AND expensive.

This bench is 48" wide, with -3" depth (23") for some footroom, and suede because vinyl sucks and i have an enclosed cab. $449.....+freight $160....+tax = extra $200 on top. This was the best cheapest option for what i wanted to put back there. I have two harnesses from the bosses old ultra4 car ill use.

Carpet kit showed up. I was very very skeptical on the "$160 flat rate shipping".... Kind of odd but ok, had no choice while being impulsive on a Sunday. Until the 24x18x36 box showed up that weighed about 20lbs.. i had also ordered that padding/sound deadening pad, which shipped seperately, about 3lbs...

They tried to justify the $160 for shipping to me, ended up with a $50 refund. Honestly to ship both packages it costs about $60 MAX. So I'm not sure why they pad the shipping charge so much AND defend it? Again, and FYI to anyone who orders, call first so you don't get money pulled out from under you. Definitely got jipped, but whatever. That's my only gripe.

Subframe and 3link is getting close to done. Ordered links, 2.25" 7075 aluminum lowers. Uppers and steering will be 1.75".

Really hoping this will be done by end of June...we shall see.... It's still possible....

Front 3link is mocked up. Reusing the old front frame-side upper link mount as it's pretty stout. Shortened up the lowers a bit.

Rear axle is underneath the truck. Will run 7/8" heims on the uppers and the Currie johnny joints I have on the lowers.

Ordered the new offset chassis link brackets from ruffstuff which are pretty cool. So instead of building a subframe we can use these, which allow the link bracket to mount off the side of the frame instead of under it. See pic.

You can see my old sawzall hackjob on the stock crossmember from the original panhard i had to clearance after the first build. Either going to chop the whole thing off and put some tube there, or just notch out the middle where the uppers attach to the axle to clear.

We're going to clock the case up one more notch, because we can. Now it'll be flatbellied.

It's coming together.... Going to be a close call if itll be done by the Rubicon on 31's run. We will see. But, at the same time, when we finished the last build, I loaded up and went to Rubicon that night lol. Maybe the steering shaft won't fall off when I get to the trailhead this time haha.

Rear bench seat came in. It's nice, but not $700 nice. Totally worth PRP's asking price, but shipping and tax just kill it!! Can't get around that. :) Still happy with it, very good quality and very quick turnaround.

The ruffstuff brackets are sick, gonna work perfect. Look at that beautiful rust topcoat, gorgeous. Looks like shit right now but that'll all be gone. Rear 4link should be done by the end of the weekend.

The bracket for the upper link on the 60 will be tilted back a little, and the ruffstuff rear lower brackets will be angled in a tad as well, he is running the link numbers tomorrow morning.

Friend of mine at High Angle is building me some drivelines:
.188 wall front and rear
1410 on the fronts
DC rear with 1350's, 1410 at the yoke

Bought a 60 flange for the front, 32 spline flange for the 205, and another flange for the output, yoke is already on the 14b and it has that Artec pinion guard so theres no reason to touch it.

Realized I'm basically building an ultra4 car without the horsepower. Now that it's starting to come together, my friend building it is getting pretty excited about it too. Going to be pretty awesome.

Pics have sucked but there's really not much to show at this stage.
