Downshifting Problem?

Quick question, when decelerating (foot off the pedals) when I hit 40 mph my 4Runner seems to catch a bit, as if I had tapped the brake a little. Is this normal or should I be getting the tranny looked at?

It's normal. Vehicle is using "grade logic" which downshifts according to preset parameters such as: Grade, accelerator position, speed, etc.

^^ that. Watch your tach, you'll also see the revs bump up at the same time.

When this will REALLY surprise you is when it downshifts at about 60 mph on a serious grade.

Good to know this happens to me everytime when driving. Now I know its normal you guys save me a trip to thr dealership
