Drain plug gasket

Did an oil change today and noticed that the gasket on the drain plug is different than any other ones I have had. Picture is below. Is this the factory metal gasket or should there be a fiber gasket as well?

I don't see your picture, but if I remember right, mine has one of those metal gaskets. I don't think I've ever changed mine and have had no leaks.

Picture doesn't work for me either. When I worked at Lexus we used both metal and fiber gaskets, stopped using the fiber ones because they were prone to coming apart.

For what a drain plug gasket costs...I replace it everytime I do an oil change. The gaskets are available in quantities of 10 for short money. There should be only one gasket between the plug and oil pan. The gaskets I use are aluminum with a fiber layer on the sealing face(s).

This is so simple. I buy 4-5 oil filters at a time from the dealer and get the same number of these "gaskets". I tape one to each filter box. I think it's like $6 for the filter and the gasket. Use the Toyota filter, the Toyota gasket, and the factory recommended 5W-30 conventional oil (whatever 5Q container is on sale at Walmart well known brand). I have 120K miles on my 2008 6cyl 4R Ltd, changed the oil every 5K miles myself.

The easiest oil change vehicle on the market (oil filter on top, 18" wheels easy to access drain plug).

Don't make oil change complicated! No dealership can ever blame an engine issue on after market filters, gaskets, etc.... Keep a nice record book.

Personally I think it's faster, easier and cheaper just to order online.

That's odd. I don't think that's original. Next time you're at the dealer maybe ask to see a new drain plug.

There is no gasket on the plug in your photos that I can tell, On my 2004 4Runner the "crush washer" A.K.A. the "gasket" is a metal washer that compresses/crushes when you tighten the drain plug, hence the name crush washer and is removable.

I just get a bag of them from the dealer. It's like $5

And while on the subject, is the transmission drain plug gasket the same one? I'm thinking they're both 14mm plugs.

There is no gasket on the plug in your photos that I can tell, On my 2004 4Runner the "crush washer" A.K.A. the "gasket" is a metal washer that compresses/crushes when you tighten the drain plug, hence the name crush washer and is removable.

There is a pressed-on, rimmed, captive softer metal (aluminum?) washer on the bolt in picture 2. I fooled with it a bit and it is not removable without deforming it, but it will rotate a bit. I am just wondering if this is stock or some replacement that someone put on. The bolt clearly has a flange like other drain plugs I have had on toyotas, but I have never had a captive metal gasket before.

May just see if the dealer has one in stock and I can look at the stock one.

Yep me too, I have 150k on mine and an extra 5 bucks in my pocket from never buying a new crush washer. Wait, make it 7 dollars... my wife's Acura has the original on it too.

get a Fumoto valve and never worry about it again

Seems to me 50,000,000+ oil pans from cars in earlier days got by without leaks, and they had no crush washers.
