Drained my diff oil and saw this! is it bad?

Ok so i installed a spool all by myself last year, shops wanted 1200+ to install it even if i took the diff out which is stupid, so decided to just do it myself. I read a lot and went through the repair manual 100 times to make sure, it actually turned out to be pretty easy. only thing i forgot to do was mark where the adjuster washers were so i kinda guessed. anyways after doing it, and after about 6 runs, all was good. now im changing the gears so i have to rip it apart again and when i drained the oil i saw two metal shavings :s i havent taken the diff out yet to see whats wrong, but the wheels turn fine in the air, diff spins proper, would this be normal when installing new bearings and a spool?? thanks and sorry for talking so much

Could you have possibly gotten bristles from a wire brush in there when you had it apart? That's what those looks like.

I know after installing a locker, you're supposed to have a 500 mile break in period where some "shavings" and stuff will get worn off as the locker breaks into it's natural operating locations. That could be what you've found, but I'm not sure how it would come off looking like that? And spools could be completely different. Just a thought.

I agree it looks like bristles from a wire wheel.

Ooo wow you guys could be right!! i did use a wire brush to clean the old gasket off, phew thanks, thats a relief
