normally 4 qts will drain from the drain pan. there about 8 quarts inside the transmission, but you can only change those with a transmission flush. there are several threads about it in the FAQ

Well unless I measured wrong this is only what came out just a little over 2qt
So I only put 2qt back in. Yeah cause I've read on here that whatever you take out thats what you put back.

Why not just pull the trans line from the radiator and dump out 2 quarts at a time. And refil.

I did it with 16 quarts. The fluid is now bright red. It was actually very dark. I'm glad I did it. I don't think it was ever replaced.

When I was having tranny trouble a few weeks ago, I drained and filled twice at intervals and both times I got about 5 litres from the trans. pan.

Having the proper level of ATF is very important.

My biggest pet peeve on these rigs is the whimpy trans dip stick. I was always afraid each check I made, it was going to break in two.

Wow the seems like a lot

Dexron 3.

I just used cheap supertech fluid. I figure the truck is has this much milage. Why dump money on premium fluid. Although I did use Mobil 1 on the diffs. That was because they were only a dollar difference per quart.
