Well I ordered my 4' Firestik Firefly antenna today cause I found it on sale. Starting to accumulate all the parts I need.
 
I'm looking forward to installing these. But I do need some advice, what's the best length antenna I should get for this application? Anyone have photos yet?

Where did you order? I'll also be collecting the parts soon and will be shopping around soon. Are you going with a handheld cb?

Yep, I had already received the Midland 75-822 as a Christmas present. I got the antenna from Amazon for just shy of $17 shipped. Still need to order the cable and stud. Got my QD ordered from Amazon also cause they had a warehouse deals one
 
your best bet is to call a reputable CB radio shop and discuss, that's what i did. I called Clay's Radio Shop and spoke with Clay and he sorted me right out.
I went with a Predator 10K setup with spring & QD.
The antenna is so very important that you need to get it right or you will not be happy with the performance.

Totally my fault though! From putting the antenna up and down so much, the cable frayed and grounded itself out. Water had been getting into the cable too because when I cut it everything inside was corroded to hell.
I decided to fix it, and then I remembered that I had a No-Ground Plane antenna (NGP). You cannot alter the cable length, not even 1/2". Then I noticed the rust on the rack.:scared:

Sorry for the delay. Our original cutter for the mounts backed out on us so we have been looking for another one. I am still hopeful that we will have them ready by the end of the week. Thanks for being so patient

ANTMAN had to use NGP because he must not have wanted to ground to the roof, but we can ground to the quarter panel

You said you would "advise against grounded antenna" and a non-grounded antenna is NGP (no ground plane) which in addition to being less efficient can cause damage if it gets grounded. If you have a ground plane available, grounded setup is better

I see, you got a point. I meant to say don't go with a NGP antenna but rather one that needs to be grounded. Sorry for the confusion!

That seems like he's still trying hard to get them out this week. But I'd guess it will take time to find a new cutter.
