Drilling light bar mounts to body

I recently bought a light bar but i'm unsure how exactly to mount it, it's used so there's no instructions. I want to mount it on the top part of my windshield with the brackets on the side of the windshield and I don't know if i'm supposed to drill through the rubber that seals the door, or cut out the portion that i will be drilling. If you have any knowledge on how I should do it, or if you have done it yourself please let me know.

Not sure of the design you're using, but I would think leaving the seal intact will prevent a possible air or water leak.

Neither. Remove rubber seal temporarily. Drill holes. Mount lightbar brackets. Put rubber seal back. It wont be perfect but it will work. I recommend downpours mounts.

What light bar, what mount and what vehicle?

From your signature, I assumed that it is a 99 4R? I think there are vehicle specific mounts out there, the mounts that come with the light are probably not the best to use if you want to custom mount it to your vehicle.

It's a factory ohv bar and custom mounts, I was just wondering if i had to cut the rubber that seals the door but i figured it out. it just peels off but it was stuck on there really well for some reason. thanks for the reply though

It's a pretty rough install but not bad for a kid with a drill while its pouring rain. I just used rivets but had to gorilla glue them to keep them from spinning, the holes on the drivers side are way too big so i'm gonna weld them in today.

What kind of rivets did you use? Did you not use the correct drill size for them?

You might have some trouble with tacking them in place depending on what those rivets are made from...

I used 1/4 inch aluminium rivets for the passenger side and had to use 5/16 inch rivets for the drivers side since the holes were too big. I was going to weld in steel rivets but i figured i'd give aluminium a try, it started to melt right through it cause it was too hot but i eventually was able to put in a few tacs.

Those tacks won't hold well... Aluminium to Steel doesn't weld very well at all.

Why not use RivNuts? I don't mean to sound rude, but that sounds like a very questionable installation for such a heavy item.

sorry, I usually just call rivnuts "rivets" out of laziness. I did actually use rivnuts, and the only reason i tacked it on was so that it would stop spinning and i could get it to collapse and catch, it's not solely being held on by the weld. I took it for a test drive the other night and the mounts are solid, when i try to wiggle them by hand the whole truck rocks.

I bought them from a friend a few days ago and i'm not sure where he got them, i found a page on instagram that makes nearly identical mounts for 150 a pair, although i forgot what it was called.

Ah okay, that should be fine then since mos rivnuts are a form of steel.
