So I need to put on a new drive belt and between OEM parts my options are 90916-02585 and 90916-02586. I am trying to figure out the difference between the two aside from the cost.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Your's should be the 90916-02585, the 90916-02586 fits my 2004 V8, the difference I found out when I replaced the pulley on my belt tensioner, it seems the 2003 and at least early 2004 V8s have a larger tensioner pulley, my pulley is 105mm which is right at 4" in diameter, 2005 and onward use a 90mm pulley which is right at 3 1/2", so if you can get a relatively close measurement and your pulley is indeed closer to 3 1/2" then the 90916-02585 is the belt you need.

Just an FYI I also checked a couple of Toyota websites and both agree with what I posted above for the belt part numbers, the pulley info is something I found out when replacing my pulley, I also discovered the previous owner install the wrong belt which seemed obvious to me was for the 3 1/2" pulley, this I know because it was extremely hard to get off even with the tensioner back off as far as I could, the correct belt I purchased when I bought with the 4" pulley went on with ease.

And this may be obvious, but the last two numbers are belt length in inches. Sometimes it's the last three if it comes in 1/2 inch increments.

Good info here. I’m planning to do my belt at some point this season along with idlers, and didn’t know they changed the diameters, so this will be helpful info in making sure I get the correct parts.

Appreciate the feedback! I was watching an install video of an 04 and I have an 06 and didn’t realize the difference. Learn as you go!

As mentioned I'm not sure all 2004 V8s have the 4" tensioner pulley, I do know that all the Toyota dealers part websites say the smaller pulley or the shorter belt 90916-02585 doesn't fit a 2004 V8...but all the local auto parts stores here list both pulley and belt sizes for the 2004 V8s, so late production runs may have the smaller pulley, my build date is 08/03 so it's very early in the 2004 production run, the easiest way to know is just measure your's, the 1/2 or so difference is very apparent and easy enough to stick a tape measure down in there without taking it off.

Thanks, I will definitely check it out tomorrow just out of curiosity. I forgot what the build date was, as I haven’t looked at that stuff since I bought it a year and a half ago or so.

If you have a late build date I would be very curious to know what size your pulley is, can never have enough info to share or use when needed.

Does anybody know the Length and width and height the of 90916-02585 I'm trying to see what the different between the toyota belt vs a Dayco 5060878 because I'm putting in a js alternators 320 amp high output alternator and the dayco 5060878 is the recommended belt for the new alternator the specs on the dayco belt is 47 inch Long by 0.82 Wide.
