Drive belts DIY?

Is there a DIY out there for replacing the drive belts?

From initial glance, it looks like it is done best from the bottom.

I assume the alternator must be loosened to get that belt off.

Do the others have a tensioner?

How hard of a job is it?

What does the Stealer charge?

All belts will have the tensioner, if you have ever done belts before it is pretty straight forward and takes about 15-20 minutes with a beer. A/C tensioner is done most easily from under the truck with the removal of the front skid.

Job is super easy, hardest part for me was doing the alternator adjustment. I had to have my gf tighten down the bolt while i kept the alternator tensioned.

To elaborate to OP: Yes, the other two belts (Power steering and air conditioning) have tensioners that when tightening the bolt, tension is increased on the drive belts. But the alternator is on a rail, and must be held taut to prevent slack, prior to final tightening.

I've done belts on Toyota's before. The DIY is pretty much the same.

Any opinion on OEM vs Autozone?

For something as simple as belts, I think one of the popular autoparts stores are fine. I did my belts in the parking lot of an Advance Autoparts.

Knocked this out this morning. Other than Autozone giving me one wrong belt, job was pretty easy. The DIY was great.

Seems like Advance gave me one wrong belt too. I can't remember which one it was. Whichever one it was, I had to get one about a half inch or so longer.

As a word of caution!!!

Do not brake off the nipple on the radiator cap. The hose that attacked on it and runs to the tank. I broke mine while I was doing my belts.

It was ether jb weld or get a new radiator. Jb weld has held this far. Knock on wood.

Alternator belt was the wrong one.

Luckily that's the easiest from the top and last to go on.

Now to figure out my oil leak.:yield:
