'drive' letter not lighting up in instrument cluster

while driving this morning, i noticed the green 'D' letter for drive in the instrument cluster was not lighting up. when i parked, i noticed that the reverse, neutral and lower gears were not working as well. is there a fuse for this, or can i safely assume the bulb is burned out (after nearly 9 years of being on continuously)?

Do any indicators light up on the cluster? Does the cluster back lighting work when the headlights are on? The indicators and backlights are LEDs not regular incandescent bulbs, so it's very unlikely that they all burned out.

so apparently there are additional issues. when the car is on acc, cluster is illuminated like normal. however, when i start the car, the illumination goes away and goes back on when the stalk is into the first position (which turn on the parking lights).

consequently, the climate control functions are inoperable. i am able to adjust the time but unable to turn on ac/heat. if i unplug the climate control from the harness, it illuminates again.

not quite sure what is going on...really frustrating.
