Drivers door won't unlock w key

I picked up a 95 sr5 3.0 and I'm getting my to-do list prioritized. After owning & modding an 03, I'm impressed with the cost effectiveness and wealth of knowledge available on T4R.

1995 4Runner Sr5

Info: Custom alarm fob unlocks/locks great with all doors. Inside switches work with all doors. Key unlocks all doors from passenger side.

Problem: Driver's side key does nothing from the outside.

Searched like crazy and this is about #5 on the list.


Most of this I've found solid info on, but direct links help bog time.!
If any of you have great tips, links, & part #s for the following, I'd definitely appreciate it.

Problem: Driver's side key does nothing from the outside.

If you opened up your door panels and inspect, you'll probably find a problem with your driver's side key switch, or with the wiring to it.

I'll get inside the door this afternoon and see whats up. I just wasn't sure if there was a trick or something to get it to open. Seems odd that the power locks work and unlocking from the passenger side with the key opens all the doors but the drivers side mechanically won't open.

If the key won't work the lock it's mechanical not electrical.
There are linkages inside.

Perhaps its a replacement lock in that one door? I can't tell if you're able to turn the key but nothing happens, or you can't get it to turn at all. If its the latter, the last owner probably changed the lock but didn't give you the extra key for it. Or, maybe he did! Try checking the other keys you got!

If you can turn the lock with the key but nothing happens to that door, then the linkage is disconnected from the lock itself or the cam at the end of the lock is broken/stripped and not actually moving the bar that opens the lock.

Got it fixed. Pulled the door panel and the connection wasn't locked in to where it only rotated without moving the lever. Glad it wasn't related to the alarm!
