This was exactly what I needed. The most difficult part was grinding the plastic. Everything else was easy, especially w the directions which Jason provided. Thank you Jason.

Got mine done. It’s definitely on there good. I’m not mechanically inclined nor do I like cutting into my interior but it was fairly easy

Mine didn't go so well. The Pillar never fit right after getting the bracket in there. Followed all the directions, even cutting more out for the bracket, but the pillar would never stay in place. Finally just gave up and finished anyway. Now the pillar has a bulge in the middle area. Looks like shit, but what are you gonna do. I ran out of light so I'll take a pic, for what it's worth, tomorrow. Not blaming anyone, just to be clear, just seemed like my bracket was just a bit too tall. Didn't use washers on the bottom (screw) cause it would have been worse.
Maybe after surgery I can try again with the final steps, new pillars are only $70, so it's not the end of the world.

The way mine fit.....I had to use 5 washers on the bottom to make it level. The metal on the A pillar isn’t even. I took a dremmel and used it to sand down the black plastic under the panel itself. That made it fit better on mine

Make sure you trim enough of the underside so the black plastic doesn't interfere with the bracket.

Yeah, I trimmed via dremel the exact amount Jason showed in the pic, plus. The pillar never wanted to stay attached to the upper part. It would click in with force, then pop out again. It was obvious that the bracket was forcing out the middle. I used tape and a grease to mark the inner side when attached and it was an area completely cleared out. Nothing more I could do, but I tried anyway. That weakened the plastic supports on the side which allowed it bulge even more. I'll try again with a new one in a couple months, and maybe just live the minor bulge and not try to fix something I can't. At least it works.

So I super glued 5 washed to the bottom mount because there’s no way of getting those suckers in there otherwise. I had way too much play in it with only two and if I would have fastened the bottom bolt the whole thing would have shifted down so I’d try adding a few more washers.

Also, once the bracket is fully in place, obviously don’t remove it again, and you put the panel back on when you’re tightening down the handle itself it’ll get rid of some of that bulge in the pillar. Mine did anyway. Hope that helps

Yeah i tried washers with tape early on to even things out, it had no effect. I spent two hours trying to make this work, and basically ruined the A pillar in the process. I would never try to back out the screws by the way. It will be a couple months before I can play with this again. Appreciate the info though. Cheers.

Did you cut the hole large enough for the clip to stick thru the hole?

Yes, I installed this mod on my 2019 TRD Off Road and it fit perfectly.

Thanks, Jason for a sorely needed mod. I just installed mine today. It took me a good amount of time due to my paranoia about cutting into my A pillar cover. After many measurements and many test fittings I got it done.

I did make a few tweaks to your excellent instructions to satisfy my OCD.
It’s always good to protect your dash surfaces and A pillar cover with masking tape and put down a towel on the dash to avoid scratches while working with tools. I also taped all around the hole drill locations to create a “bucket” with the tape sticky side up in order to catch the metal shavings.

I found that the pointed blade end on the sheet metal screws wasn’t sharp enough to enlarge the initial 1/8 inch pilot hole. So I drilled progressively larger holes, up to 3/16 I believe, to get to the proper size for the sheet metal screws to take hold and tap a few turns for the threads. I then backed out the screw and cut off the blade ends with a dremel cutting disc. On my A pillar the screws seemed too long, there was some kind of plastic backing in there that would have been pierced with the screw blade ends.

I used blue loctite on the threads and snugged up the bracket to the pillar. With the cover installed I found that the white nylon base on the lower attachment point of the handle needed to be shaved down to make it fit flush with the surface of the cover.

It looks great and feels just as sturdy as the passenger-side handle.

I got my parts from McGeorge Toyota online. It’s the left hand grip. My interior is gray, as are the part numbers as listed in the first post. You might be better off going to your local dealer and ordering there to verify the color in case you have a tan interior.
