Drivers Window Noisy When Lowering - Already Replaced Regulator

2007 4Runner started making intermittent noise when going down, then began making a loud pop about 5-6 inches from being all the way down.

I replaced the regulator and motor assembly with a Dorman. Does the same thing.

Funny things:

- Door open, seems to work fine
- Door closed, makes the noise - will usually pop loud once then when raising and lowering it creak in about the spot it makes the loud pop UNLESS I pull on the top of the window while it is going down.

The door does not need to close all the way to make the noise - just the first latch where the dash light indicator says its still open.

It will resume the cycle once I open the door and close it. If I lower the window it pops again.

I know it sounds confusing….but has anybody experienced anything like this?

Some have had similar or the same issue and it was the "door check" that stops the door from opening too far was bent and hitting the window as it was moving.

Not sure but if that is what it is, I would think it wouldn't do it while the door is opened and the door check is pulled out of the door, maybe try that and see if that's what it is.

Thanks! I have one on order. I’ll report back!
