Driving the dealers car......

I'm considering a 07 Sport v8 21k miles that I saw at a Nissan dealership. Looking to trade my 08 SR5 with 41 k miles. Its listed for 25900.

The dealer let me take the v8 home and drive it back tomorrow. Left my truck with them.

It rides very nicely. clean Carfax. Very clean car. Great power.

Question..... I looked underneath and it doesn't look like it has Xreas. I thought all Sports did but I don't see the Yamaha hydraulic equipment. Do all Sports have Xreas?

What do you think is a fair trade value? I'm thinking 23500 for theirs and 22000 for mine. reasonable?

Since it's a Nissan dealer, doesn't come with warranty but I'm not overly concerned.

All Sport Editions have XREAS. Look at the actual shocks to see if you see a line attached to them. If not, see if you can get a brand and/or part number.

I'll look in the morning, but I definitely didn't see the Yamaha hydraulics attached to the frame under the side of the car.

I looked at an 08 last week and clearly saw the Yamaha gear attached to the side frame. Did they perhaps mount it elsewhere on the 07's??

Also get the VIN and run it on the Yota website to see what it has on it's "history" if any.

I just did exactly that and there are absolutely no records for this car. Must have been brought to a private shop or nowhere at all for regular maintenance. Hmmmmmm........

Yea, it's very noticeable if you're looking for the lines mounted to the frame. My 03 has them there, the 07 shouldn't be any different. Something is definitely fishy, at 40k miles they should not have ditched the XREAS system (unless going with a lift setup, which you would notice).

Getting a brand or a part number off the shocks would be most beneficial at this point though. As mentioned, get the vin and run it through the Toyota owners web site, may show a history there. If anything was done with the shocks, I'd think it would have been done under warranty at that mileage.

Definitely agree with ARK. Weird that the VIN has absolutely NOTHING on it. Mine at least had a few maintenance things on it but not a clear/clean record.

Oooops...... my mistake. Just went out there with a flashlight and now I see the Yamaha gear.

Do I need to be concerned about anything with the X-reas?? I didn't have it before. What are the pros and cons (if there are any cons)?? Is is prone to failure?? If so, what kind of repair costs should be expected or does it need to be repaired at all??

VIN shows nothing on the Toyota owners site and the Carfax only shows that the brakes were replaced and resurfaced only 2 weeks ago by the Nissan dealer. But this wouldn't show up on the Toyota owners site.

The Nissan dealer also replaced the battery with a new Nissan battery. The prior owner seems to have also added HID lights since I see the two boxes in the engine compartment that run them. Don't know anything about them though.

I have 35k miles and XREAs on my 08 Limited. no worries so far. I also have DS 2.5/1.5 and LR UCAs.

Both my 03 and 08 are Sport Editions with XREAS, and they are both still goin strong.

If one wants to replace the system with another OEM XREAS, its pretty expensive. Personally, I already have a set of FJ springs waiting in my basement when it's time to replace an XREAS, and i'll order the Bilstein 5100's when that time comes.

The inside front of each front wheel well is cut under those air vents and the mud flaps were cut as well.

Ay reason why this might be??

Perhaps for aftermarket lighting or something?

HID lights were installed as well.

Sounds to me like it was previously lifted. Someone ditched the xreas for a lift setup, then put some cheap shocks/coils back on before trading it in. This explains the lack of xreas and also the cutting.

HID's wouldn't require any type of trimming such as that.

It's a great looking truck and I'm stoked to have the V8. It's ABSOLUTELY like night and day over the V6.

Went from an 08 stock SR5 with 41k miles to 07 Sport with 21k miles. I preferred the light gray interior of the 08 and I'm not nuts about basically having no coverage, but I think it was well worth the $3k uptick I had to pay.

look forward to detailing her now. No mods planned. Like it just as it is.

I've only had it for 6 hours so I'll have to keep you posted on that. I will say, however, that the dashboard computer says my avg mpg is in the 18 range (and I did reset it as I was leaving the dealership). Thats better than what my v6 was saying (17-ish). I don't know how accurate that thing is anyway. I never put more than 10k on any car per year so I never concern myself with mpg too much.

Don't drive the v8 unless you want to start an intensive and obsessive search and spend money. I drove one, fell in love with it, and became hell bent on getting one. You will too. It's powerful, quiet, smooth, and I no longer have the 4th to 5th gear "drone" that my v6 had. Drive one, then immediately drive the other. The difference is striking.

I was driving everyone around me crazy.

As for the XREAS, it may go out around 125,000...maybe not, perhaps you will be lucky! I loved it, but certainly wasn't going to replace it when it went out...but that is FAR off in you future.

I envy that you have been able to purchase youth so reasonably!

Don't you still have a power train warranty from Toyota?
