DRL Disable but keep Auto Headlights

Found this and tried it but I couldn't figure out how to remove the pin from the connector.

Seemed like a good mod which would allow to revert back to stock if you wanted to in the future.

Maybe if someone figures out how to remove the pin they can post on how they did it.

Anyone try to hook up a switch using this info? I hate the DRL on when parked at night with the dashboard lights on.

I did, well kind of. I did my mod about a day before they posted the instructions. So my switch is wired in from behind the Body ECU instead. But you should be able to cut the wire near the kick panel connector and splice the switch from there instead. All you're really doing with the switch is interrupting the signal from the ECU to the DRL relay, as long as it's in the path it should be fine.

There are legitimate reasons for temporarily turning off DRLs - going through checkpoints is one example.

Or having a lifted 4Runner with bright LED DRL's behind something like a Prius... well who really cares about Prius drivers unless they're being idiots in the left lane.... so maybe a Camry in a drive thru.

Canada has resolved this issue with this regulation which states:

Regulation will help new vehicles, but doesn't do anything for the vehicles on the road since the late 90's or anything made before the auto manufacturers comply with the regulation. A step in the right direction, but honestly we're talking about trying to fix stupid, and we all know how well that works!

Absolutely correct. Some manufacturers are foolish enough to turn on the dash lights with the DRLs. That lulls the drivers into not realizing that the lights aren't on.

Canada has resolved this issue with this regulation which states:

(14) If the fuel level indicator, oil pressure indicator, engine coolant temperature indicator, battery charging indicator, automatic transmission control position indicator or speedometer indicator or their identifications are illuminated when the daytime running lights of a vehicle are in use, one of the following requirements shall be met:

(a) the lower beam headlamps shall be automatically activated in a steady burning state in less than 2 seconds if the ambient light outside the vehicle falls to less than 1,000 lux, and after being automatically activated, shall be automatically deactivated in less than 300 seconds but not less than 5 seconds if the ambient light outside the vehicle rises to more than 7,000 lux; or
(b) the tail lamps shall be alight.

I live in Canada and it is amazing to me how many drivers only have their DRLs on at night in the city. The idiots see their dashlights on and think their tail lights are on along with their headlights. I like to call those idiots Trudeau voters.
I despise my DRLs; I always drive with my lights on regardless and I hate the government mandating my car must have DRLs. I should be able to shut them off especially when I'm not driving.
I can however, shut them off when my parking brake is on, so mayne there is a simple mod in that regard.

Not just Canada. I live in San Jose CA same here. I can see 2-3 drivers every night with DRL on.

I think the a lot of the gauges require back lighting with all the LCDs so they just turn them all on.

Great mod. I think this is similar what I did to a 2002 Corolla. DRLs burn out bulbs faster too.
And, there are idiots that drive at night with DRLs.. Of course, they are paying attention more to the cell phone than the road anyways.

I had to disable mine because I changed my high beams to a LED with projectors. These things are like Off Road lights. The problem was they high beams were too bright even in DRL mode. I found this link that shows you how to disable it by simply bending the 5th fuse pin. I’ve had it this way for two years now and no problems. How to: Toyota 4Runner DRL Disable
– DRZ OFF ROAD

There is now a solution to allow a proper LED DRL & High Beam in our 4Runners, one that correctly dims in DRL mode.

I’ve dealt with this company for several years and their products are top quality.
The company owner is a Toyota guy and they actually engineered the product for this vehicle.

I’m not using it, because I have a 2022 with LED high beams, so I simply disabled my DRL and wired that position as an auxiliary high beam, using a different VLED bulb. My DRL is now my fog lamps, using a Brite Box.

In any case, here is the link. I’m not affiliated with the seller other than being a happy customer.

Wow this is a great find. I’m sure a lot of people will be very happy with this kit. And they have both 6k and 5k light options.

I also had a chat with Jake. Very nice guy and very knowledgeable.
