Drove By Dealership Today

After shopping at Costco today I drove by the Toyota dealership. I turned on the side street and looked for the new 4Runners, they usually have about a dozen or so in one spot. In that area were RAV4's. Then I drove some more and there were 60 to 80 RAV4's. I saw 0 4Runners. If they have them, there in the back. On the way home, I thought about it, if I was a dealer, I would order what I can sell, not what Toyota makes.

So, I guess this is a sign of the times. I have been considering a new car. I have looked at both the 4Runner and the RAV4. With the price of gas, I have put my buying on hold for a bit, not sure of what to do. I guess the dealers have made there decision.

I like the RAV4 as a small SUV.
My commute is short enough that the lesser MPG on the 4Runner isn't causing any pain. If I had a longer commute, I'd seriously consider the RAV4.

I'm in a similar boat - my drive to work is only a few miles. Other than the Costco runs and taking my family and dog on a trip to the beach or lake I don't put too many miles on the 4Runner; so I don't really feel the pain as much as somebody who drives 100 miles every day.

If I did drive that far every day I'd probably get another Camry.

I'm getting ready to drive from Texas to SoCal over July 4th. I know it'll be expensive in the 4Runner - but we will be more comfortable than if we crammed into the Camry.

I'm just not ready to give up the 4Runner yet.

I gave my 97 to my kid and then got the 07. Even with gas $ it is worth it. from safety passive and active to ride comfort and sheer PLEASURE of driving a fine automobile. The $2K I will spend extra on gas I can conserve in other areas. When I roll I want to be stylin' and safe.

I agree....for my 1200 mile trip, 4runner at 20 MPG burns 60 gallons, Camry at 30 MPG burns 40 Gallons. It's an extra $80 each way at $4.00 a gallon avg....20 hours in a vehicle and the money is worth it to me...but that's just me.

I'm probably underestimating the 4runner by 1-2 mpg, and the Camry will get about 30 - but I'd also have to put some $$ in it to get it ready for the trip...all things to consider.

We averaged 22 mpg at 70 to 75 mph going east. now here in California I can easily do 23 mpg at 65. Driving in driving rain about 2 hours before the tornado hit in Iowa the 4Runner was a big asset. Pulling east from SLC the 4Runner was sheer pleasure. Driving across the barren desert of Nevada we popped the sunroof and the windows and cranked up some tunes from the day.....Gas makes my car run. I will pay for it.

The GOV'T will never let gas become that expensive. After it starts hitting $5 in more areas the government will begin to subsidize the price of gas. Lets not be silly.....

:FOS: Last time I was talking to the Caribou they told me that it'd be nice to have a place to go and warm up. They told me a little warmth puts the lady Caribou in the mood :lmao:

Seriously though, their numbers will probably quadrouple just as the Polar Bear has in the last 35 years...
