Dual Battery Tray Options

Go to lowes, pick up a small sheet of 16 AWG for $4, bend it with a rubber mallet and cut it with a dremel or another cutting tool.

On mine the AC line doesn't have to be moved over and re-clamped like on the ABR one. The AC line sits in it's stock location and the bracket bolts to my tray with a longer bolt and rubber spacer ,right in the corner.
The power steering res. still has to be relocated. Mine is simular except my side is taller and I made a cutout for the power steering bracket release. I fabbed another tray assembly out of .040" stainless for a prototype that I have yet to install that simplifies it .

Bud is super busy working on new projects right now.

I'm resurrecting this thread!

So, has anyone found something (or willing to make something :bigok:) to solve this? I don't have the ability to fabricate anything without either hurting myself or really pissing-off my neighbors. I'm still confident that shipping something from Australia for over $300 isn't the answer I'm looking for. I understand Bud Built still hasn't made his tray yet.

Harper, are you willing to make a half dozen or so for fellow forum members?! :art:

Who else needs a battery tray for a dual setup? Maybe I'll finally take SeattleMike's advice and see if we can convince one of our favorite fab shops to make something for us.

Wish I could as a bunch of people have asked. They put up cameras everywhere here at work and I don't have the tooling or metal at home. I just used scrap metal that was laying around anyways but can't take a chance now.

As soon as I get a chance I will take it out and get some detailed pics and measurements and send them over to Bud at BudBuilt.I need to get in there to wire some new ballast for my fogs anyways. I had talked to him about fabbing some up last year but he was busy with Gadget's truck at the time.
 
There is a decent fab shop here in Dallas. If I can get the pics and dimensions I might be able to get them to gen out a bunch of them.

If you are using Optima batteries, check out RuffStuff Specialties battery boxes $45 for single battery boxes, $83 for double. made from heavy gauge (3/32") steel.

Here's what I came up with. Played around with the design for a bit before I got a chance to make it. I went with an Odyssey PC1200.... its a helluva battery and fits darn near perfect in that spot on the passenger side.

If anyone wants, i would be glad to provide you with the mounting hole pattern, or whatever other info is helpful. I cut up the OEM power steering bracket and welded a new base onto it and bolted this up to the aluminum battery tray. Ill take some closer pics tomorrow for anyone interested.

Depending on how many people are interested, I could be convinced to make a few more of these trays and power steering brackets....
 
When I did my dual battery installation, I went with the IBS system and I looked around for battery trays that would work. At 4 Wheel Parts I found a tray by Blue Torch Fab that worked perfectly for my purpose. It was also reasonably priced and it fit into the same spot everybody uses with only minor adjustments. I had to do the same relocations as described by Harper, but I did these by bending existing brackets--nothing fancy, but it works. The tray I got works perfectly with Optima batteries. I suspect it may not work with all others. I think I paid less than $50 for it, and it was raw steel, so I had it powder coated before installation.

As soon as I have a minute I'm pulling the tray and clamp I made and having it hard anodized. If there are enough people interested (say, 5 or more) I will look at making a batch of em, it would require people to pop the power steering bracket off the reservoir and unbolt it from the truck so I could weld the new base to it, but I could do that in one day.

Nicely done!

I've gone the easy/expensive way and ordered the ABR battery tray and drop-in cable kit/battery isolator from Derek Bester at ABR-Sidewinder. The ABR tray will hold 25-PC1400 Odyssey battery. Once I have it all installed I'll post a few pictures and some commentary on ease of installation.

I was just thinking about dual batts today.

Any reason(s) you chose IBS over the National Luna dual battery controller?

I second the motion to have budbuilt build us a good / inexpensive tray we can easily order on-line....:hungry:
