Dunlop AT20 loud buzzing? is it the tires?

Hey guys,
I've got the lousy Dunlplop AT20's on my 2004 SR5... Once I get up to about 50-60 mph, the buzzing/humming noise is almost deafening... Is it the tires?

I don't think it's out of alignment cuz it doesn't pull... my balance seems to be fine also as there isn't any wobble or vibration... Don't think it's a U-Joint either... it's definitely not the motor cuz I threw it in neutral at those speeds and the noise didn't stop, and the motor dropped to idle.

I really want to get a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires, but don't want to drop the cash if those don't fix the annoying buzzing noise.

Any advice? anyone else have a similar issue? I didn't think the AT20's were that aggressive that they'd make as much noise as a set of swampers...

The worst tires i ever had to deal with were a set of dunlops. I won't even consider ever using them again even if they were free.

It could be cupped tires. My wife's car had some bad cupping in the tires when I got them and we replaced the tires and wheels and it's fine. If it's a speed-sensative noise you hear it's probably from the tires. Not rotating them ever can have that affect if they wear in an odd manner.

I agree with the 2 previous posters, the cupping issue and the "Dunlops are CRAP" point.

I bought my 08 V8 in April, they put brand new dunlop AT20's on. I asked em to refund that and put some crap ones on thatll get me to my tire-guy. They didnt do it, but i got $120 for each tire from him and a great deal on BFG's that have treated me well in the past.

THAT'S how much i dislike te Dunlops.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses... Definitely not a cupping issue... tires are balanced and front end aligned.. they're relatively new tires also... good tread...

but my question still stands... did you get the loud buzz/humming noise from these tires at about 50 mph? I just want to be absolutely sure it's the tires making the noise before I drop $1000 on new tires... hopefully some nice quiet long-lasting Michelins...

Okay, just found out.. it's NOT the tires...

It's the STUPID left front wheel bearing, growling and buzzing.. I've had the truck for 4 years now.. and it's been doing it the WHOLE TIME!! UGH!!

I'm glad they can at least fix it and STOP THAT NOISE!!! it was driving me CRAZY!!!
