Duratracs, BFG All Terrains, or your input

personally I think the BFG AT's suck in the rain and even the snow (would think they would be decent in the deeper stuff on the road, but no). I will try the Duratrac's next on my Trail. as I had said before, Firestone Dest AT's are on our Sport. Nice tire, but not really an off road tire. If I really wanted an off-road tire, I would get a MT anyways. But, everyone's idea of off-road is different too.

Had BFG and they are great, except that in rain they tend to aquaplane. The KOs are a little better.
I have the Bridgeston Dueler A/T Revos on my 1999 and I am happy with them. No planing issues and great in snow. Plust they look really cool!

I've always had an odd ball opinion on tire classifications. I don't even acknowledge all seasons exist if I am driving a 4x4 truck. For me radial all terrains like the T/A KO's are an "all season" tire that can go off road. Radial mud tires like T/A KM2's are "all terrain" tires. And finally purpose built off road/mud tires like Boggers and Pitbull Rockers are "mud terrains"

But that's just my skewed opinion in my crazy mind.

If not, BFG at's are my next set. Or MT/R w/Kevlar's if I got the cash. I'd love to have a set of 305/70/17 Kevlar's after the BL!!

For you guys interested in Duratracs, you can sign up for a tread lightly membership ($25 per year) and they offer a $100 mail in rebate. I did this on mine and combined with a $60 instant discount they were offering and it helped a lot on the cost.

I put a set of DuraTracs on my FJ and thus far am happy with them. On the 4Ruuner we are on our 2nd set of Bridgestone Revo's which I am very happy with.

I don't think you can go wrong with either tire really. It comes down to your personal preference. I love the look of the Duratrac's and I also wanted an aggressive looking A/T tire so I went with them in 285's. Just bite the bullet and get 285's! Why are you wasting your time with special ordering 275's?

I don't see how in the world i could fit 285s. I have daystar 2.5/1.5 with full FJ swap. I would have to get a 1" body lift or do some crazy trimming. i would absolutely love to put 285s.

You could totally run 285's if you wanted too. I have 2.5" of lift in front and 2" in the rear and had to do trimming to make them fit but nothing crazy. I do run spacers as well to not rub on the UCA. My vote is go 285's and trim some plastic, you won't regret it!

I also have wheel spacers and removed mud flaps and pushed the front liners forward so would that do? You got pictures you can put up of what you trimmed?

I'm running Duratracs. I think they look 100% better than the BFG. The tread looks better in person than in pictures. I don't rock crawl so a 3 ply sidewall isn't necessary, and they ride better on the road than an E rated BFG will. Compare the tire weights to each other- that will tell you a lot about how sluggish your truck will get when you put much heavier tires on (rotating mass).

Duratracs are also great on the road, quiet for how aggressive they are, and for me were cheaper than the BFG's at the time of purchase.

Hi love u truck, how is intake and exhaust working for u, do it help increasing mpg little. cuz i thing getting for my 06 V8 SE 4x4, rite now have drop-in K&N and getting 14.5mpg to 15.5mpg city driving

Might be a little late to the party, but got to say I love my DuraTracs on my Silverado 1/2 ton. They have been awesome in the snow, mud, rain, anywhere. No serious off roading, but plenty of logging roads while hunting and cutting wood. Road noise is very minimal if any.

A_Hul, here are the pics you requested. I didn't move the fender liner back (too lazy), so I just started cutting plastic with a really sharp razor blade until I didn't have anymore rubbing at full lock.

First 4 pics are of the drivers side. You can see that I trimmed the fender liner and the bumper in a few spots to make it NOT rub at full lock. Pic #1 shows the fender liner in front of the tire with the front bumper trimmed. Pic #2 shows what you have to do when you start trimming a lot :hello:. I needed a zip tie in there because at certain speeds it rubbed on my tire. Zip tie fixed everything. Pic #3 is again in front of the driver side tire, showing the bumper trimmed. It's not much, I took off maybe 1/2"-5/8" of bumper plastic. Pic #4 is driver side behind the tire. You can see the body mount and the part that I trimmed is circled in red. Pic #5 is showing the front fender liner trimmed and again a small part of the lower bumper that's trimmed is circled.

All in all, I think it came out well. You'd never notice any of it is trimmed unless you get down right next to the tire and physically look for it. I plan on getting a schrockworks or other brand front bumper down the road so I didn't care to much about cutting her up. She looks mean as hell with 285's! I hope this helps with your decision.

Gosh I hate when people type "cuz". But intake and exhaust work great to help the v8 sound. But performance is only like 10hp and 1mpg. on a V6 don't bother.
