I read somewhere that early V8 towing capacity was 5000lbs. I got the dealer to print me off a sheet with all the options a 2003 4runner could come with. Under towing capacity it says 5000lbs standard or 7000lbs as optional equipment (for v8) but it doesn't specifically say what is required for the 7000lbs. I also have have sheet which says all the factory options that came with my vin # and one of the options is 'camper/towing package'.
So I would assume my truck is capable of 7000lbs but here's the kicker, when I tried to rent a car trailer from uhaul, their computer said my truck wasn't able to tow the flat bed car carrier with a Corolla on it which wouldn't be close to 7000lbs.
So whats up here?? I checked my hitch out, it looks pretty hefty so I would assume it has the 7000lbs rating but is there a way to tell forsure? I just have a bit of doubt because if early ones had less capacity mine was one of the first made (manu. date: 09/02).
