easiest way to get to the water by-pass outlet

At least after searching I think thats what it is called. It is the casting on the back of the 3VZE where the coolant temp sensor goes and the coolant passes through it. I need to take it off and clean it out. Will probably replace the gasket as well. Is there a way to get to it without taking off the torque converter and trans?

Start by breaking all the joints in your left arm. Don't bother with your right arm, it won't work. Tie what remains of your left arm in to seven square knots. squeeze it under the front side of the engine bat and deform it until it reaches the back side. You might consider dehydrating yourself first so that your fingers are the size of a 3 year old's.

Thanks, but that looks like it is just for the temp sensor. I can get to that, I need to know to get the whole casting off.

If I remember correctly, it's just a couple bolts straight down into the bypass block that holds it on. Then of course you have all the various hoses and lines that must be pulled off, too. Just be careful back there--that block holds a number of expensive emissions sensors that will break off quite nicely if forced.

Don't I know it! And yeah, I didn't mean MUCH force--some of those will snap with harsh language or an angry look (LOL).

If you're talking about the one all the way to the back of the engine. The only, and best way to remove it is by taking off the intake manifold to get to the bolts.

This part is very prone to rusting, and like mine - will eventually fail. Causing radiator fluid to leak out the back of the engine.

Do yourself a favor, and replace the damn thing!

Just to be certain - is this the part you're talking about?

Location on the engine (near the firewall)

If I'm way off I would check the bypass tube for rust/corrosion and replace it if necessary.

Yeah, Bob has it right. I should have posted a pic.

Here is a pic I got off the internet. Ignore the red circle. I need to take the whole block off. I have reason to believe it is clogged and I need to clean it out.

im pretty sure you can get to it and take it off if you remove the intake manifold. just a heads up. those sensors and hoses may break once you get back there and touch them. they are kinda costly at dealership so hit you local junkyard and pick up a few spares or even the entire by pass with sensor and swap it out completely
