Easy rear sleeping setup...

Just scored a couple of pieces of foam second hand for a whole $7.50, glued em together with spray adhesive, cut em to suit with an electric bread knife (works brilliantly).

The wife is going to make up a cover for it. Nice and easy way to set up for quick camping missions...

Was thinking about cutting filler parts for the gaps around the wheel arched but it probably won't be worth it once we've got blankets etc. in there.

Nice! I am juuust too tall to leave the seat bottoms in, so I remove them and throw a twin-sized mattress in there.

Good deal on the foam. That much foam new from an upholstery shop would be 100 easy, maybe 150!

Definitely a good idea. They sell 2" mattress top foam at Costco for a pretty good price as well.

We have.... imo that's pretty ugly. but will be comfy! I have removed the cargo area carpet and put 2" blue sleeping foam underneath so it still looks stock but is very comfy.... ill get a few pics up as soon as I can.

I've done this in my old tacoma, it's very comfortable. When not in use I roll it up in a 10x10 tarp with a couple of bungee straps and it rolls up pretty tight for easy storage. As far as looks who cares? if it's just for camping and not a permanent fixture then I think having your wife sew up some sheets will be perfect!

Pretty similar to what I do, except I just use a thin mattress pad that I cut slits in for the wheel wells. The extra foam just props up against the wheel wells so there's a little padding for when I eventually roll into it. Works fabulously with the screens I built for the back 2 windows to get a little airflow.

For all those tall folks out there, I am currently drafting up designs for a rear cargo platform to store stuff under and a sleeping surface on top. The cool thing about my idea is to have a hinged section on top that folds over and rests on the rear seats to lay flush and gain the extra length needed. It also allows for you to use the rear seats if you want. Just fold them down and flop over the hinged section to present a full length sleeping platform. I'm not even tall but I hate feeling crammed in... I need some room to stretch! It shouldn't be too high either, I would hate to awake from a scary dream only to hit my head on the ceiling! I'll make sure to take lots of photos and do a proper write up when I finish it. Hopefully I'll get it done before hunting season as that's when I use it most since some spots around here are super rocky and don't make for very good tent sites.

Yeah it was a really good deal!

As far as looks go, it's only used when needed, I use the cargo area and back seats of the wagon all the time. My wife is going to stitch up a fitted cover to go over it, so it will look like a custom fitted mattress.

You did not invent this, but I think you perfected it....

I had a green '97 SR5 in highschool, and I used to take a similar set up at the local the drive-in theatre. If you leave the tailgate up, the view is excellent...mind you, leaving it closed offers better privacy....
